I timber reading something about them last year when the job opened up. Can anyone explain why Portland State is so bad and why it’s going through coaches like crazy? Are they having an opening for Head Track coach again this year?
Typically hire people with good intentions, but very little experience. couple that with an extremely low budget, no facilities, little to no admin support, etc… it’s a mess. why they stay D1 is a mystery. Basketball had a great year this season, but other than that, almost every sport is bottom of the Big Sky.
Not for Northern Colorado, but I'm hearing he may make a move after nationals. Smoke on the water seems to have heard the same
There’s a lot of sitting head coaches going for this job. 💁🏻♂️
Unless Northern Colorado has changed and they are providing more scholarship money into their program, this is not a program on the rise from a support standpoint. Wayne had a nice run with a few elites (some of them poached with $ from schools who pay) - and they developed some nice numbers in the sprint area, but other than that they have been low level Big Sky. Their staff did about as well as could be expected with the resources available.

Young coaches listen up. This is how it often works with mid-majors and this will burn you out quick. Advice from an old hand--be an assistant at the highest level you can acquire then only be a head coach in P4 or top-10 mid-major or Ivy or top-30 D2/D3
Was he let go, or did he decide to focus on his athletic career representing GB?
Let go.
This is unrelated, but their lone regional qualifier for the men was unable to compete at regionals due to not having 14 athletes in enough meets. The program is a mess.
"young coaches listen up, only take a job at these 50-60 top schools, 10 of which have a pensioner that wont leave, 10 that are the best school in the country, 10 that interviewed a guy with 30 more years of experience than you! Good luck!!"

Clarifying--only take head coach jobs at those schools (more like 100) or stay as an assistant. Otherwise your career and sanity will slowly disintegrate. Good luck!
Changes at William & Mary. Rumors among alumni are that Heacock was politely forced out of the Director role due to lack of results. The AD wants to move forward with a distance coach as the Director but is not considering promoting the current distance coaches .
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Longtime Track & Field and Cross Country Director Alex Heacock '09 is transitioning to the Tribe Athletics Advancement team to focus on Track
Seeing some of these job posts on the xctf.portal account, "Ast. Coach - Part Time" - Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred. Who has a master's that's accepting a part time job that requires the time of 1.5 full time jobs???
How accurate would you say these rumors are? If they bring in a distance focused coach, but not one from the current staff, how does that fair for the current men’s and women’s distance coaches?

Obviously the current distance coaches would need to find another job. Harsh, but the reality of college athletics.

Uh oh. Not good for Braden. He has done a decent job for what they are and the funding they are given. He has a lot of years under his belt. Why wouldn't he be at least given a look?
