Are "flat-earthers" an actual thing?

The more compelling evidence is when flights are scheduled to go from one city to another, but have multiple connections to other cities along the way for no conceivable reason. Unless, of course, those cities are further apart than it would appear on a globe.

From what I understand, the flat earth theory on sunlight is that the sun rotates above, explaining the illumination in different time zones. Here's what I don't understand. This would mean it's like a giant flashlight beaming light down on earth as it rotated. If I'm in a dark theatre and there is one spotlight beaming down on somebody a hundred feet away from me, I can still see it. I can see it at 8am, and I can see it at midnight. The reason the sun rises and sets is because our globe rotates, exposing progressively more of earth to the shining sun. What do flats say about this?

If one were to navigate by ship to the ice wall there would be very few options: tip of South America, tip of Africa, New Zealand, or Australia. Antarctic Defense Forces will prevent passage long before reaching destination. You just can't go to Antartica on your own w/o authorization. Flying there is impossible unless there is a refueling depot floating down there, haha.

If the earth is not flat, how do you explain the flow of the Ganges.

The flat earth responses explain it by location, shading/shielding and some weird notion that the moon is actually the Sun at night.

An even better question for flat earthists is to explain how these changes in position, shielding, etc. happen and somehow the Sun and Moon maintain nearly the same apparent diameter throughout these cycles. The proposed close location of the Sun and Moon from the Earth's surface and visibility from various locations would yield wildly varying apparent diameters for these objects when viewed from different locations. The Sub has an apparent diameter of roughly 209 arc seconds, or a little less than 0.5 degrees. If it's this size at peak over Las Angeles, viewed from New York at the sane time, it would be about 140 arc seconds across. If you take the usual height of 3000 miles most flat earthists use. It gets even more pronounced if you use Hawaii at noon and view from the continental US. The Sub's apparent diameter never changes by such large amounts.

The other thing that stops flat earthists in their tracks is parallax for nearby stars. Google the words

Parallax "61 Cygni"

for an example. Many are verifiable by anyone with a decent scope and camera.

what's the difference between 2d and 3d earth geometries? the embedding space. dimensions don't "exist" and a universal TOE isn't going to be found.

say you're on a patch of 2d earth with some visible 3d light cone. the sun's motion is a solution to some differential equation periodic in 24 hours. and we can solve for the motion of the stars and everything is on some gigantic 2-torus and blah blah blah who cares this is all an argument about convention no different from the arithmetic order of operations problems you see pop up on facebook.

People like you don't like being told what you don't see for yourself. You look outside and it looks flat; therefore the Earth is flat. The Moon is really small and far away, therefore it's impossible to go there. You commit yourself to these theories so intensely that you can't accept they are wrong. You are forced to come up with even more ridiculous ideas to support your previous ones. There is a glass dome on top of the sky. Really? Admit that at one point in your life you would have laughed this off like every other sensible person.

How far from Earth is it?

What is its diameter?

I need this basic data to prove to the non believers that the sun is capable of not radiating like a sphere!
