Looks a LOT cleaner from the front (CBC showed that view in a replay, not sure if others did), doesn't look like he really shouldered Farken out of the way
He didn’t seem to impede him much from that angle, I agree. They seemed to have grazed arms and Hocker did everything he could to avoid him.
As a logical matter, "didn't impede him much," means he did impede him.
Even if Hocker didn't pull Farken backward (which I think is correct), he totally ruined Farken's momentum by inhibiting Farken's arm swing and screwing up his stride when Hocker's shoulder and arm came through.
I wouldn't DQ Hocker, but I'd certainly pass Farken through.
Farken was cooked and not quailing, I guess Hocker is just supposed to be sit there and lose... He literally did everything possible to try and get around him without obstructing him.
He definitely did what he had to do given the circumstances. Just didn't seem all that legal. Let's see what the officials say.
Results now say "Official" and Hocker is in and Farken is not. I don't see how that is possible. Farken needs to be advanced regardless of what happens to Hocker.
Why? He was not making that final no matter what Hocker did

please he was going backward before the little bit of contact
Final line up is fascinating now. There's medal chances for people we didn't think had a hope a couple of weeks ago. There's not many that if rule out from taking a bronze at this stage. It could be chaos
I don't know how Americans hype Hocker up so much. One of the least graceful runners ever. Looks absolutely ridiculous with his silly pony tail. It's like watching the llama from emperor's new groove.
