How much more do ppl need to convince them Trump is a fraudster.
It would be interesting to know what the key contributors are to persistent Trumpism? Is it mainly the relatively new and easy ability for Americans to get all of their "news" from sources 100% catering to their existing views? If Trump came along in 1975 or '85 or even '95, could we/would we have gotten persistent Trumpism? Apparent list of key variables:
1) The latent (and not) idiocy of Americans.
2) The unique, apparently, ability of Trump to take advantage of #1.
3) Ample right wing-only news/commentary.
4) Other demographic/sociological factors that I'm not addressing?
The popularity of Trump is due to the policies of the Biden admin

lots of factors but mainly, he's a brilliant politician who came at the right time. His two main ideas: anti-immigration and 'it's ok to be a terrible person, don't let the libs make you feel bad about it' hit home exactly.
The media side is important too...we used to get our news from actual quality sources. CBS, ABC, NBC, NYT, WSJ tell the truth the best they can. Fox and 'electronicjihad' does not. And that's let people think they are patriotic by attempting a coup. Incalculable damage to the nation.
Why "the right time"? Would his message NOT have worked in decades in the recent past?
And the normalizing of "being a terrible person" seems particularly unrelated to era and/or current events. Like, if that worked in 2015-2023, I could just easily see it working in 1885, or whenever.

Thank you for that rigorous and comprehensive rebuttal. You're totally not worth it, but.....since it's so easy:
1) That doesn't explain his nomination in 2016 (no excuse for that....plenty of other defensible conservative choices, obviously).
2) That doesn't explain why the Rs didn't start to disown him starting in 2017 (although it's politically understandable).
3) Nor why they ran him again in 2020 (ditto politically understandable).
4) Nor why they've supported him approaching 100% all along (NO politics excuse for this).
5) Nor why, perhaps MOST importantly, why they're not CURRENTLY picking other Rs who would be plenty different than Biden in the CURRENT primary (NO politics excuse for this).
Not a Republican. And this is a thread to discuss Joe Biden. If I want to call out republicans and trump then I’ll post on the trump thread. Can you guys really not accept any criticism regarding anyone in your party without deflecting back to trump? I understand that this is mostly and echo chamber, but why get defensive about someone asking for the current potus to call out someone in his own party? I understand this is meant to be an echo chamber for Joe Biden cheerleading, and honestly I haven’t much to critique him on in regards to his rhetoric surrounding the current Israeli conflict.
Now, how about try to have a discussion without deflecting. Biden, and the Democrat leadership, should get Tlaib and others in line. Her comments were premature, inflammatory, and misinformed potentially leading to further escalation of tensions and violence. Do you agree or disagree? Hopefully you can answer without mentioning a republican since this isn’t the thread for that. If not, enjoy your echo chamber, I guess.
this is a current events thread. Your saying it isn't...is the soul of deflection.
anyway, sure, tlaib is an idiot. Not sure what Joe can do about a backbencher without any leadership roles. What's your suggestion he do? Being an inflammatory idiot is a long tradition among backbenchers.
The problem we have today is that the Rs will probably make Speaker of the House their former backbench idiot. They elevate their idiots and that is 10,000 x the problem of tlaib.
You almost did it, then the siren song of deflecting to republicans harkened you back to your old ways.
A current events thread with the focus on the current POTUS. If you can’t make a point without saying “but what about so and so republican” whenever you’re challenged, that’s a sign of limited depth of knowledge. And yes, I’d say the same thing to anyone in the Trump thread. Make your point and arguments without having to deflect to someone across the aisle.
So let me get this straight... Biden is stuck in a real nasty situation with Israel at the moment but the Rs are too busy not selecting a speaker to cease the opportunity to attack him. What a dumpster fire the GOP is... fkn imbeciles.

What an utterly lame thread this would be if you couldn’t bring context and comparison into play.

Jumping straight to Trump or whatsboutisms is what makes a thread lame. I’ve actually been impressed with Biden’s rhetoric during the current Israel/Hamas conflict. He’s been very much direct in support Israel and hasn’t pulled punches when referring to Hamas as terrorists. It’s unfortunate to see people in his own party undermining his strong stance with inflammatory comments on a situation that had little concrete evidence surrounding it.
Your response: “But what aboutTrump and the republicans?!” That ads neither context or value to the conversation. It shows you have limited ability to discuss a topic.

In his financial statements, he listed the name of an appraiser whom he claimed had appraised his property. The appraiser had never met Trump nor had he ever appraised any Trump properties.
Let's see how Trump will pin this.. Which of his go to defenses will he pull out of his bag?
Witch hunt? Joe Biden's weaponization? Fake News? Presidential immunity? Hezbollah is smart? Hillaries emails? Clinton Socks drawer? Windmills and Cancer? I am a busy guy and can't be bothered with not committing fraud daily? Everybody else does this too and much worse than me?

we will have to agree to disagree.
we're in a presidential campaign. It's a binary question: biden or trump. It's hard to talk about one and not the other. In partiuclar because they are so different in temperament.
You'll just have to live with context and comparisons. Or block me and everyone else who brings context into the discussion.

How does trump have anything to do with a critique of Tlaib in regards to her inflammatory statements around the hospital bombing in Gaza? Seems like trump is your security blanket. Again, jumping straight to trump shows you have a lack of depth of understanding and a lack of ability to discuss something on its own merit. I won’t block you, I’ll just keep in mind that there aren’t any liberals in this thread willing to call out anything on their own side, which is ridiculous.
I’ll admit that the current state of the republicans in the house is a cluster. As much as I disagree with Nancy Pelosi, she was an effective speaker. The republicans haven’t been able to duplicate that on their own side.
the above is an example of discussing a topic without resorting to low intelligence whataboutisms. Give it a try, you might be surprised at how good it feels.

But nice try.
(1) The Obama admin and the Biden admin are virtually all the same people. I have already documented this -- which I think is why I was recently given a 3 day ban for being bigoted.
(2) Of course the establishment Repubs tried to stop/smear/disown him in 2016. You forget?
(3) The GOP did not run him. The GOP voters overwhelmingly supported him.
Funny how the same genocidal shills who were just saying "flatten Gaza" and "turn it into a parking lot" a few days ago, are now trying to pretend they care about Al Ahli Hospital being bombed, and that Israel had nothing to do with it

I didn't jump straight to trump. I said tlaib is an idiot and there's not much you can do about idiots in the House. I noted she is a powerless backbencher, ignored by leadership.
THEN I pointed out a contrast: The GOP is trying to make Jim Jordan, a completely extreme wildman who won't disavow J6 or even say Biden was the legit winner of the election, and has been blowing up the House for years...the GOP is making him into the SPeaker of the House.
that's an important observation to give context to your complaint about Tlaib not being silenced. Tlaib is ignored, Jordan is made Speaker of the House. I fail to see how that is not a useful comparison.
Did I even mention trump? No. I spoke of Republicans, not Trump.

There is no "But Trump" card. He's a f*cking criminal. And no, the law didn't come after him because of mean Tweets. And no, liberals don't hate that f*cker due to mean tweets. He's a criminal. He's a dictator wannabe. He's an idiot who doesn't understand how ANYTHING works let alone the US government. He's the leader of a group of beta white males who are afraid of everything. F*ck Donald Trump and his dumb as sh!t followers.
