Right wing takeover of Floridas New College is serving as a job placement program for failed right wing politicians.
DeSantis crony Richard Corcoran is now getting paid $1.5 million per year to be president of a college with 698 students. The grift is real.
Not defending his salary (a quick google search says only 700k, still a big raise). But are you really worried about one tiny left-wing-turned-right-wing college right now? Last week a professor at Yale said "settlers are not civilians," implying the rapes and muders of Israelis were justified. A professor at Columbia wrote an article calling the scenes of Hamas's attacks "awesome." An associate prof at Cornell was "exhilerated" by the attack and re-iterated his full support for Hamas in an interview. Are there not sufficient career opportunities for far-left whackjobs in academia already?

I'm actually sort of enjoying and supporting the FL attempt to redo public higher education. Campuses need to be rethought. I don't trust DeSantis one half of one inch, but I do trust Ben Sasse, new prez of the main U of Florida campus. Could be interesting and worthwhile.
That salary is real: It's an estimate of next year based on what consultants hired by the college say he should be paid.
Richard Corcoran’s appointment to lead New College of Florida has drawn scrutiny for months. Eyebrows were raised when he got the job on an interim basis back in February with a base salary of $700,000 — double that of his predecessor. Throw in retirement, health insurance and a $100,000 car and housing allowance, and his compensation package reached over $1 million. Trustees gave him the job permanently last week, and the new position could come with an even larger paycheck. A financial analysis commissioned by the Sarasota school recommended a base salary range from $487,110 to $867,777, with total compensation, including bonuses and benefits, up to $1,547,324. That analysis, performed by the consulting firm Mercer in July, is based on executive pay at 12 universities that the authors said share reputation, cultural and strategic similarities with New College.

Haven't Israel and its supporters frequently called the Palestinians animals and savages?
WASHINGTON — A former Republican candidate for Michigan governor was sentenced Tuesday to 60 days in prison for committing a federal crime during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Ryan Kelley, who was arrested during the Michigan gubernatorial primary in 2022, pleaded guilty this July to a misdemeanor count of entering and remaining on restricted grounds, admitting he "rushed past U.S. Capitol police officers" and "used his hands to support another rioter who was pulling a metal bike rack onto the scaffolding." Prosecutors also said he ripped a tarp on the inauguration stage.
Can Biden please do something about this insufferable human being?
“Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that,” Tlaib said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “[Biden,] this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire & help de-escalate.” “Your war and destruction only approach has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslim Americans like me,” she continued. “We will remember where you stood.”

The great risk in issuing such an inflammatory statement without definitive knowledge is if proven false, you gain a reputation as a beacon of misinformation. Lesser offenses have led to incitement of violence.

So you are a Republican concerned with politicians who lie, exaggerate, make wild statements. oooookay mister. now do the 100+ GOP members of congress who voted to protest non-existent election fraud. And do trump. Please.

Sometimes you wonder why that internal alarm does not go off for a Trumper before they click on POST to reply...
You know, maybe something like this:
Hmm...Maybe I should sit out this topic and keep my opinion to myself because I have been defending and supporting a lying, cheating, adulterous, traitorous, felonious, narcissist, reality show conman for 7 years. And commenting about one lie from a different politician would make me look like a fool.
How much more do ppl need to convince them Trump is a fraudster.
In his financial statements, he listed the name of an appraiser whom he claimed had appraised his property. The appraiser had never met Trump nor had he ever appraised any Trump properties.
Let's see how Trump will pin this.. Which of his go to defenses will he pull out of his bag?
Witch hunt? Joe Biden's weaponization? Fake News? Presidential immunity? Hezbollah is smart? Hillaries emails? Clinton Socks drawer? Windmills and Cancer? I am a busy guy and can't be bothered with not committing fraud daily? Everybody else does this too and much worse than me?
How much more do ppl need to convince them Trump is a fraudster.
It would be interesting to know what the key contributors are to persistent Trumpism? Is it mainly the relatively new and easy ability for Americans to get all of their "news" from sources 100% catering to their existing views? If Trump came along in 1975 or '85 or even '95, could we/would we have gotten persistent Trumpism? Apparent list of key variables:
1) The latent (and not) idiocy of Americans.
2) The unique, apparently, ability of Trump to take advantage of #1.
3) Ample right wing-only news/commentary.
4) Other demographic/sociological factors that I'm not addressing?

Not a Republican. And this is a thread to discuss Joe Biden. If I want to call out republicans and trump then I’ll post on the trump thread. Can you guys really not accept any criticism regarding anyone in your party without deflecting back to trump? I understand that this is mostly and echo chamber, but why get defensive about someone asking for the current potus to call out someone in his own party? I understand this is meant to be an echo chamber for Joe Biden cheerleading, and honestly I haven’t much to critique him on in regards to his rhetoric surrounding the current Israeli conflict.
Now, how about try to have a discussion without deflecting. Biden, and the Democrat leadership, should get Tlaib and others in line. Her comments were premature, inflammatory, and misinformed potentially leading to further escalation of tensions and violence. Do you agree or disagree? Hopefully you can answer without mentioning a republican since this isn’t the thread for that. If not, enjoy your echo chamber, I guess.

lots of factors but mainly, he's a brilliant politician who came at the right time. His two main ideas: anti-immigration and 'it's ok to be a terrible person, don't let the libs make you feel bad about it' hit home exactly.
The media side is important too...we used to get our news from actual quality sources. CBS, ABC, NBC, NYT, WSJ tell the truth the best they can. Fox and 'electronicjihad' does not. And that's let people think they are patriotic by attempting a coup. Incalculable damage to the nation.

this is a current events thread. Your saying it isn't...is the soul of deflection.
anyway, sure, tlaib is an idiot. Not sure what Joe can do about a backbencher without any leadership roles. What's your suggestion he do? Being an inflammatory idiot is a long tradition among backbenchers.
The problem we have today is that the Rs will probably make Speaker of the House their former backbench idiot. They elevate their idiots and that is 10,000 x the problem of tlaib.
