Have to say Biden's critics have a point on the $6 bn of Iranian money South Korea is now allowed to return to Iran.
Money is fungible. I understand these dollars have to be spent on food and medicine etc, but that just means Iran has billions more to spend on rockets for Hamas. Iran can pay for medicine with this money, leaving other money for guns and bombs.
That said, not a penny of the money has been released yet, and to my knowledge Israel has yet to say it believes Iran is behind the surprise attack. Other sources have made the connection though.
Biden took a gamble that by making a peace offering to Iran, Iran would slow its nuclear program. After Trump green-lighted Iranian nukes by tearing up a signed treaty stopping the Iranian nuke program.
I suspect 'moderates' in Iran told the US moderation would happen. But they aren't always in charge in Iran. There are multiple factions deciding Iranian policy.
I think the WH would take this one back if it could. And maybe it can.
