I suppose it is illegal to sneak across the border to request asylum. It’s a weird legal setup that should be fixed.
But once in the US, no matter how you got here, if you ask for asylum you are granted a hearing. Around 40% of requests are granted. The US simply cannot kick you out immediately if you ask for asylum. Repubs don’t seem to understand that. They think it’s Biden’s choice to keep the immigrants in the country. Despite courts ordering Biden not to be so harsh and quick to deport. Opposite of what most Rs think.

agreed congress needs to step up and pass laws to fix it.
But ultimately the only way to fix it is to build wealth in latin america. For the US to spend money down there to provide opportunities for the locals. Rs will not do that of course - and as a result, people will continue to flow here. They just will. The wealth gap is too large. We are an enormous vacuum sucking up desperate people. That won't stop until they have a reason to stay home.

Make it mandatory for ALL employers to verify the social security cards and details given to them by ALL employees in a national database. Lots of other countries do it and it works. Republican politicians never mention it because inside they know we need the cheap manual labor that illegal immigrants bring.
