I suppose it is illegal to sneak across the border to request asylum. It’s a weird legal setup that should be fixed.
But once in the US, no matter how you got here, if you ask for asylum you are granted a hearing. Around 40% of requests are granted. The US simply cannot kick you out immediately if you ask for asylum. Repubs don’t seem to understand that. They think it’s Biden’s choice to keep the immigrants in the country. Despite courts ordering Biden not to be so harsh and quick to deport. Opposite of what most Rs think.
