CoachKev,
Just come out and say it.
I actually think you look up to this guy and believe everything he told you and you are now finding out that your hero is not who you think he is.

sorry to take 3 posts to get this done. i am inept on this forum.
this is the crowdfunding for a team of experienced ultrarunners (over 150 years experience) to go out and independently monitor RY around the clock for a week.
We have no dog in the fight, and intend to either verify that he is doing what he says, or not.
any residual funds will be donated to RY's charity if he can produce the same results he does without being monitored, or, if he cannot, the funds will be donated to myelin research for MS.
It is amazing every winning hobbyjogger posts GPS data everyday on FB. But every running hero frauds and cheaters can never produce one for all kinds of reasons including battery life and chaffing issues.

Rojo - there are two grizzled, veteran ultra-runners (Lazarus Lake & RayK) and a few others, are headed out to do just that.
If a crew from here would like to do the same, they might reach out and co-ordinate with the crew from the ultra list to ensure they are not overlapping and a longer span of Mr. Young's venture could be witnessed.
Hell yeah!!!!!! Laz is the MAN.

Funnily enough the tru results search somebody posted includes a guy called Robert Young who is the right age group and clocked a 30:47 second run leg in a duathlon. This matches Robs 10k PB.
Sadly that run leg was only 7km long.
Where is that duathlon result?
The wikipedia page is so badly written and so clearly rushed. I almost think it was done by a LRer trying to make it look like Robert or a friend did it. It's that bad.

Wishlist item for the fundraising:
Buy a couple GPS watches for RY to use on the rest of the run? One can charge in the RV while the other is in use. He posts to Strava after each segment.
well, posts to strava whenever he takes the watch off, which might be daily. or more often (why not?)

I just spent two hours reading
http://www.marathoninvestigation.com/- what are you referring to?
I'm referring to my five year phase, post-'Born to Run', where I ran quite a few Ultras and personally saw people go to extreme measures just to cheat.

Whether you are a believer, or a detractor, this will serve your purposes. You Tha man Lazarus. Thank you

I can give a perspective having run with Rob a number of times including the last 30 miles of his 375 mile run. He is genuine and is faking nothing I can assure you of that. He just wants to run and set records and I'm afraid he can't do much about what journalists or others write about him and how they can exaggerate the truth sometimes.
At mile 360 he did run sub 7 min pace for at least 3 miles and I have a video to prove it with the pace showing on my watch. He did go sub 6 min pace for most of this and even faster. I couldn't run and film at that pace as my fastest pace is 6 min miling and I struggled to keep up with him. He was running after having a massage from a friend of mine so his legs were in better shape.
He did have multiple coffees and sugar at the 350 point and a few others on the way to 375.
His average pace whilst running with me was sub 9 min and I know what a mess he was in because I was the pacer and it was me who called the run over as I was protecting him. I called the ambulance and his team of supporters and expressed my concern. The paramedics were understandable concerned as his heart rate was VERY low and his entire body was in a mess. His throat was swollen and his glands and mouth were filled with ulcers and he was finding it difficult to do anything. This was a human being at its lowest and it was then I realised what dealing with pain is really about.
Since that day I have run a few more times with Rob and can verify his speed and endurance. His team will take times and wins to suit their needs. If he ran 27 miles and won each stage in the Race Across America then no matter what you think it is still an ultra distance and still a win.
He was a domestique for a professional cycling team and a successful triathlete so he has pedigree in sport.
Rob truly is one of the nicest and most genuine people you could ever meet and I truly encourage each and every one of you to take time to run with him and see what a bloody nice bloke he is. If you haven't run with him and haven't taken the time to do so I don't think you can comment negatively. If you have integrity then go and track him down and run a few miles.
Please don't be negative towards him and just run and see what he really is all about. You will be very surprised at what a lovely guy he is and how genuine he is. Think how negativity affects you in a race and how if you had lots of people on the side of the road calling you a fraud and a charlatan, don't tell me you wouldn't be upset by it.
It's too easy to write bad stuff and hide behind a keyboard. Get out there and run some miles, record them and try to actually get behind something in a positive way rather than taking the easy negative route.
Don't go ballistic at me either as I'm just writing my perspective on things and just like you I'm entitled to my opinion. I have the integrity and security in the knowledge that I have actually run with Rob and have seen what he can do.
Yes I realise I haven't posted on here before but I saw this rotten thread in a Facebook group and couldn't sit by and just let this go.
I am not a fool either and saw through the entire Mark Vaz fraud and I can assure you that this is definately not the case with Rob Young. The two are completely different. Vaz was looking for attention and money of that there is no doubt. Rob is looking to beat demons and to prove to himself that he can do these amazing things and to inspire children.
I have seen him talk in classrooms and listened to his story and he is magnetic and inspirational. How many of you take the time to inspire kids and others and truly want to make a difference in people's lives. I'm sure many of you do but equally I'm sure there are some who delight in nocking people at any opportunity.
This was written at 3:29 am. Shouldn't you be out running instead of on the computer in the RV?
Little stuff:
One of his supporters pulled the RY was an "abused child card'' ??? Really??
Ran a marathon and ran a distance equal to a marathon seem to be interchangeable in the RY version of ultra running argot.
To most people running a marathon and I ran a marathon means running in an organized race of 42,195m.
To most the phrase Winning A Marathon means there was an organized marathon involved. You know one with other people, a defined race course and some sort of record keeping done by race officials.
To most the phrase representing GB&NI (or any country) implies something much more official, specific and structured than just entering your citizenship particulars on the entry form.
If Mr. Young would send his address Id be more than happy to supply him with my GoPro for the remainder of the trip.

Maybe this is the triathlon info:
https://www.athlinks.com/Athletes/114076336/Race/24188953/DetailsIt was swim 4K, bike 120K, run 30K triathlon called the "ITU Long Distance World Championship" on June 4, 2004 in Säter, Sweden.
According to this, he placed 10th out of 15 in his M20-24 age group and 177th overall out of 504. Fwiw, he did the 30K run at the end in 2:33:37 (8:14 mile pace).
That's certainly not a "bronze medal."
A friend of mine finished that same race in 07:06:05 winning her age group and coming in the second woman overall (she lost the overall by 1-second). She was also 81st out of all participants.

I can't address the video and the RV as I wasn't there. Neither were you. Only the filmer and the team were. Unfortunately the filmer didn't seem to be able to keep up with the RV so he hasn't been able to enlighten us further. Hopefully the team will. Not sure if they are aware of this and in a way hope they aren't as it wouldn't be the kind of stress Rob needs. If some people can get along to join him, as he keeps asking people to do, there may be more reason to believe him. Of course if they find him unable to run 60+ miles a day, then you will have been proved right. As I said, all I can vouch for is his charcter and his ability as I know it. This is the link to the first marathon I met him on, a mountain one
http://results.sportident.co.uk/home/event.html?eventid=e4f0344f-164a-4125-9b9c-b7e7075b354d&mobile=falseI seem to remember he had run an ultra the day before and was off for another marathon the following day. Many of his runs were done in the park, so I guess it's a case of believe him if you like - I don't think Guinness have ratified his most marathons in a year. But there are lots recorded, including an impressive London time, despite a ten minute interview on the BBC mid-run.
Thanks for continuing to follow this, and provide input about your experience with Rob. I posted my experience to get everyone's experience with him, and so far it seems I may be the only one with a negative experience. You bring up some questions about my story such as why I didn't flag down the RV, and as others have said, and I posted earlier, I tried to run up to the RV, they stopped, then drove away before I could talk to them. My purpose was not to call into question his history, or abilities. I just don't believe he is legitimately completing this attempt. Now, both Rob and myself are encouraging people to get out and run with him. So runners, get out there and see for yourselves!
Got to say that this guy is extremely good at cheating, the GPS tracking is very consistent. Diana Nyad got caught because they didn't fake the GPS data, I guess these cheaters learn every time one gets caught.
The dude just admitted on his FB page that he is wearing a GPS watch. WTF???
Nyad didn't cheat.

At some points we were doing almost 4 miles an hour," Bartlett said. "That's just the way it works. If the current is in your favor at all, that explains it."
The data collected by Bartlett and two observers will be submitted to three open-water swimming associations and the Guinness World Records for verification, Bartlett said.
An oceanographer not affiliated with Nyad's team said the swimmer couldn't have picked a more perfect current to get from Havana to Key West.

Is this THE Laz? If so, please stay the hell away from these boards. It, like Barkley, is an exercise in futility. About once every 2 years there is a good thread.
Much love and keep on keepin on!
