Official 2015-16 D3 Track Thread

Nationals > Conference I'm sure their sprinters know that.

this kind of mentality is killing our sport. If you turn every meet as a stepping stone to nationals, our sport becomes very boring.

Why is nationals more important? Conference is the only meet that the whole team can come together for. Isn't that potentially a more rewarding experience?

I mean I'd rather have a national title than a measly conference title. But I'm just some washed up chubby post-collegiate runner so who really cares.

Conference and Nationals are 3 weeks apart, I don't see how you couldn't find a way to make sure your athletes were rested but able to compete well at both. Lau and Thorson could have just as well gone together to hit a 10k qualifier and picked up 18 points in the process this weekend.

NYU used to do this too. But that was mostly because McDonagh knew that WashU would wax his chumps all over the track.

I can appreciate the arguments on both sides of this issue but let's keep in mind that the decision may be the sole province of the coaching staff and not the athletes. Let's not imply that the runners are being selfish when they may have no choice in the matter.

Ha! Do your research, newbie. In the years that McDonagh used to do this, WUSTL wasn't "waxing" anybody.

I almost wonder if some coaches hold back at UAAs to save money on plane tickets.

It's definitely the coaches decision. Lau is probably 19 and Thorson is probably 21-22. Of course they want to compete. Shame on the coaches.

Yeah shame on those coaches. They've only won indoors twice and cross country nationals once in the past two seasons. They must really not know what they're doing up there.

Word on the street is that JOsh Clark from Washington and Lee University in St. Louis ran a 4:02 mile today closing in 47.

Not a super noteworthy result, but I just wanted to say that the CCIW steeplechase yesterday was one of the best races I've watched in a long time. Keith Sands came back in the final 100 to take it from Adlfinger of NC in less than ideal conditions in 9:02. Steeple should be interesting at nationals.
