Is there a particular reason the east coast schools appear to have much, much stronger (running) programs than the west coast schools? For example, takes Bates/Bowdoin/etc. versus Pomona-Pitzer/Oxy/etc. ... what's the difference?
Do they get faster kids? Better training venues/environments? Coaching?
Any insight?
I may be pulling this out of my a$$ but I think there's just more d3 schools in the midwest and east than there is out west. Also, take the wisco satellites for example, they have wayyyy more kids than the other d3 schools because there's no d2 out there so it's larger pool.
So who's the favorite for next year? McCarthy? Droddy?

You're funny! "My head coach didn't expect much & we met those expectations." Sad, but in many cases true. So is it the coach's fault or the AD, or just the soft bigotry of low expectations? I'm sure you wanted to achieve your best as do most of the athletes in these schools.

That's definitely part of it, and it explains some of the disparity. But I went to school in Texas, and while it may not be a total hotbed of distance talent, it's still a pretty large state with plenty of fast kids. And my college team had, I believe, plenty of talent. We just didn't do much with it. Our head coach didn't expect much of us, and we met those expectations. I'm out of school a few years now, but my school is still chugging along doing the same thing. And why shouldn't they? It's easy, and squeaking out a team spot or a couple of individual spots is always possible, because it's the South.

Here are the other mile results and then finally I'll put the team places at each mile with the difference (spots gained/lost) from the 1 mile to the finish. I'm sure the formatting will be messed up, but hopefully those interested will be able to read it.
Biggest gainers were WashU (-23) and Geneseo (-18). It is interesting to see that of the 4 podium finishers, 3 of them started way back in the 1st mile and even through 2 miles for WashU and Geneseo. Haverford was top 2 the whole race.

Here is the women mile score breakdown. It was interesting to see that the women tended to change places much less than the men did. I'm sure part of that is the shorter distance, but except for a few teams, where they were at the 2 mile is about where they finished.
