I'm late on the wagon trail here but Spira is/was doing nothing different than what hundreds of teams have done in the Tour de France. The only difference is that their shoes are illegal. I'd much rather see the sport adopt a Tour de France style. Give cash to leaders at certain points, up certain hills, etc. Plaster jerseys with lots of ads.

I see in the newspaper that they are reporting that Kastor had stomach problems at one point and had to go to the crapper for like a full minute. I know she is being pilloried for her 2:35, but to have the runs and still finish in 5th shows guts, pardon the pun.

Thats right Brandon, some treadmill training helped Jerome get in decent shape during those sub 0 temps for most of Dec, Jan, Feb, and the first part of March! Way to go Jerry!!

I think what's good to see is that I've never heard of any of those guys save Gilmore. That's a somewhat backwards sign of depth. If anyone from Canada runs under 2:40, odds are that you know them.

Chris Lundstrom and Konrad Knutsen were deep Stanford and Oregon cross runners in the late 90's. Congrats to both of them!

Where did some of the other "lesser known" guys come from?

One question -who is this Tim Mahoney you spoke of and does he live in Scituate Mass?

Zac Freudenburg ran for Beloit College. and then was in the Netherlands for a piece. He resides in St. Louis. I believe he is planning on running the World Mountain Championships or something similar. I also believe he was second or third in the Pikes Peak Marathon last year. Nice guy from what I know of him.

I was at mile 16 and anxiously awaiting Deena to cheer her on. When she did not initially come by with the leaders I was aobut to call someone watching on tv to see what happened. But then she came by about 30 seconds or so later and then headed right for the porta-john. It is too bad to have stomach issues derail you on race day.
