Why do I think in, say, November 2026 these troops will be ready to go?
Trump as much as said he'll declare the insurrection act, and this. All in preparation for midterms. Expect the indictments of dem candidates to start this winter, and news orgs that cover Dems will have their licenses threatened if not pulled.
The Pentagon is creating National Guard riot control forces in every state that could respond to civil unrest, The Wall Street Journal and The Guardian report. Why it matters: The new "quick reaction" units — with about 500 soldiers each — reflect the Trump administration's push to expand the military's role in responding to protests and unrest inside the U.S. The soldiers will be equipped with batons, body shields, Tasers and pepper spray and receive training in crowd control and handling. President Trump signed an executive order in August directing each state to have National Guard troops that could be quickly deployed for "quelling civil disturbances and ensuring the public safety and order."
I wonder if the federal government can really force states to create certain types of National Guard units? Makes me realize that I don't know anything about who - states versus federal - calls the shots on how the National Guard is manned and organized? We hear all the time, unfortunately, about who can USE THEM, and when, and why. But little or nothing about their formation and manning.
