Stanford canceled their home XC meet this year. Not sure why they did that but the high school teams really counted on them hosting a big meet. If they don’t care about home XC, maybe they won’t care about home track meets either. In that case, ops becomes secondary to filling the other positions.

I have been telling everyone I can that Ondrasek is going to be the distance coach at Stanford for as long as I can. It’s done. Just waiting on other positions to be filled for the announcement. This isn’t brian science people.

He was at OU and Texas A&M before that. He knows what it takes to run for a big program and his approach is very scientific. Other than Magness at Houston, you can’t find a better young coach that understands the new science of running. Stanford would be crazy to pass on him, and from what I have heard they have not. Look for the announcement soon.
What’s going on at OU? Anyone have any idea?

Every XC guy has been spotted at another university in the last few weeks. Look for massive transfers out of the program. I am not sure how they are going to field a XC team with at least 5 guys so they can record a score.

I'm not saying the meets/DirOps should be the highest priority of JJ/Stanford Athletics. I am saying that the Stanford meets are the most important part of Stanford Track & Field to the sport of Track & Field. I think things have gone astray a bit here because some think that all the posts about the the Stanford meets/Ops are by the same person. They are not.
I understand and respect what you're saying. I'm just saying that I don't believe it's Stanford's job serve the sport, but rather to serve their own constituents.
If Stanford doesn't host meets it could even be a good thing for distance runners if the quality of competition spreads out a bit. No doubt the large majority of NCAA qualifiers come from Stanford meets; so getting into a meet at Stanford is often make or break to getting an NCAA qualifier. Politics (getting into their meets) become more important to qualifying than necessarily being one of the top runners.
At the same time, I don't care because if you can't qualify to the first round by racing at a smaller competition, then you're not a legit player anyway. The point (to me) isn't simply to get to the first round, but advance through rounds and ultimately score.

I know for a hard cold fact that one of the coaches listed here never ever considered the position and there was never a chance of it happening. So therefore, the concepts of the other coaches listed here being in consideration/turned down are highly dubious at best. I'd chalk this poster up to being a troll.

You're looking at it from a collegiate perspective, and that's fine. But the perspective from those in the pro/international side of things would be quite different.
Just heard the two finalists for Stanford are Gerry Lindgren and Jack Daniels. Heard it here first, take it to the bank.

Too bad some of those coaches named actually said no thanks to Stanford. Not the other way around. Stanford may be a great name and tradition but that doesn't mean everyone is drawn to it.
