Radical question:
To get some fast weight reduction how about 6 pints of water per day, 1 pint of an 'Ade drink, plus 3 vitamins until ones' desired weight is reached? Anyone ever tried that?

sounds like a crash diet....which might not be a bad thing; if you can stand it.....not easy.....but quickest results to get dangerous lbs. off of older, sore knees....drink the low cal gatorade.....

The 78 day of training phase II,I ran for 130 minutes, there is no feeling burning fires any-more,great feelings of runing high knees,I'm notice something last night when I slept so deep and dream of loosing my wallet with a punch of money,I was so divesteted, but when I woke up,I realize,it was a dream.
Part this is because of La Luz trail and weight exercises afterwords, saunas and when I went to sleep,I slept as someone who fall down deep to the hole no turns. The physiologist experts says, the body is in revelution moving to the next level. I could tell when was on the runing today through copper trails. I was faster by 7 minutes on check points stations I normally reached with slower minutes.
My body was in the highest lubracation through-out every joints in the body, last night sleep was the good cause of this body movement today.
I felt my body is loosing weights, last night I boiled leomonade and drink it,even before I run this morning.
This is the begining of 12 week.I call this morning,Austria,Viena and Oslo,Norway to get those world records photos. It has to be in the book.

Henry Rono,
I just got back from 5 star xc camp where you recently spoke and ran with us on two occassionas. Thanks for coming and good luck.
5 star xc runner
Henry: I just watched an unbelievable scene, from the Zurich 5k, on tv, when the 2 leaders (Ethiopian and Kenyan), jogged 2 laps toward the end, in 67 and 68, so as to force one guy to take the lead. they then burned the last 400m in 52 seconds! They ran 12:48 for 5k! What would they have run without those 2 grandy pace laps, when they were 'playing games' with each other? Didn't you start jogging once, when you were on world record pace in the steeple chase at a meet in Eugene, because Chaplin didn't want the Oregon fans to see a world record? What did you run in that race? What would you have run ?

Henry:
Your description (above) of your vivid intense dream...after a hard effort up La Luz, is very smartly explained. This is why you will achieve your goals...you "read" and understand your body during running and at other times very very well. "Moving to the next level" is exactly right.
I will email Track and Field News to see if someone will email a bigger, better quality picture of your cover pictures from 1979, 1982 etc...
Henry say:
>>when I went to sleep,I slept as someone who fall down deep to the hole no turns.<<
Yes, I long to sleep that sleep, just what the body ordered.
There are surely tons of great photos of Henry Rono. I am going to see what I can do to obtain some.
Best,
Hodgie

(snipped).....
I am 51 and hope to run a sub 5 min. mile. Last summer I made a lame attempt and went 5:30. I ran an indoor 800m this past winter in an age group meet, won my heat in 2:36. felt easy, just too afraid to lead. No real preparartion, just 25 mile a week mostly grandy pace.
......

Good going Hodgie and a great goal! Sounds like you are a bit like me -- you read Henry's words, get inspired and start dreaming and setting targets...
it will be great to see where we all end up as we follow his example!

They could have ran between 12:37-12:41,perhaps new world record.
I could have ran between 8:00-8:04 for the steeple that day, because Eugene track is way better than seattle track. Moreover the Oregon fans are inspirational to my runing psychics. They are cheerful people.
Where as seattle stadium were few people so calm sitting on the stance feeling the stormy rain that afternoon no cheerfulness people were quiet as dead as nothing is happening. That makes me angry sometimes.Chaplin should be spank for it.
It became just me and time in the seattle stadium no background supports as could Oregonians could do,but because of Chaplin politics and his attention,he pulled off the track for nothing for his selfish reasons. He should be punished for his head games he does to someone like me.
Henry
yes, I agree, Chaplin was a big blow-hard. I sat behind him a few years ago in the stands, at the NCAA track meet in Austin, Texas; he was telling stories and trying to be the center of attention as if he was at a bar or party.
Don't worry. Next summer, I predict you will set age group records in every event from the mile/1500m to the steeple chase, 5k and 10k.....if you can stay healthy and keep losing weight so you are down to 160 or less, by December, so you can really step up your training pace after January, 2007.
Good luck!
Maybe there is a chapter in the upcoming Rono book called "Chaplin Dearest". :)
Still following with great interest, Henry. Thank you, and well done.
From the WSU site....no mention of Henry?
John Chaplin
Track & Field Coach
John Chaplin ranks as one of the most successful coaches in the history of Washington State University. Chaplin starred as a sprinter for the Cougars in the early 1960's, then returned to his alma mater in 1968 as head cross country coach. In 1973 he was named head track and field coach, guiding the program for 21 years. Last summer Chaplin was honored as the head coach for the USA team at the Olympic Games in Australia. During his Cougar tenure Chaplin's teams won 202 of 217 dual meets. He coached the Cougars to the 1977 NCAA Indoor Championship, mentored nine undefeated dual meet teams and his squads won four Pacific-10 Conference outdoor championships and were NCAA runner-ups four times. His athletes won 105 All-America certificates and 61 conference titles. As a sprinter for the Cougars and head coach Jack Mooberry, Chaplin set world records indoors in the 220 and 330 yard dashes, with times of 22.1 and 33.4, respectively. He was team captain in 1963. Following graduation, Chaplin coached and taught at Wapato (Wash.) High School until 1966, compiling a 50-4-1 dual meet record. In 1966 Wapato became the first small school to win the District championship with a perfect 20-0-0 record. After two years at Oregon State as an assistant, Chaplin returned to his alma mater. Then, in 1973 when Mooberry retired, Chaplin was named his successor.

"From the WSU site....no mention of Henry?"
What is that tells you? In 1977 WSU won the NCAA championship Indoors. He peg me to tribble events to Steve Scott, later he treated me as such.
By the way I was able to get hold of people in Norway trying to get photos for another abscene of competition by the end of this week, I will get them all.I need to forward something to your email. What is your email agin?
Henry
To yes....I agree,
Still a motor mouth ha! We used to called him motor mouth. One of my athlete came across one day and he tells me,he talked to him,but heard nothing from his mouth.Because the way he talks. How did you deal with him?, he says.
When the press asked him about me,Chaplin said he will never find another runner like me.Which I thought I was going to be in WSU site.It turns out it was a joke.
"Kenyan official used them to win Olympic medal what about me"
said Chaplin,when I ask him I'm tired.
EL-G asked me,last year, "How come you never come to Big meets of IAAF.
"I see your coach running around in the meet, he has big name in IAAF?"
I told him my name is big,but I have been barried in Track&field meets, since day one.And I know the reason, why.
Most people were even shocked when they read the thread and what I'm exposing. They can't believe it.

Uhhhh, Skuj, it's John Chaplin's bio, not Henry Rono's bio.
To Skuj,
I got photos from UK through email and I forwarded to you. Did you get them? This is the Bislet games in 1982,when the policemen were pulling me off the track at the starting line.I thought you could put these photos on the thread for me.
I never know how to attach them at my end.I don't see an icon for attatchment, like an email, where you click attach. Letsrun.com have no attatchment.
It is off the newspaper. It is not like an email, where you click attach
I spoke with Oslo sports press this morning to send me hard copy of the photos for the book.
I wish I can find also Oregonian Newspaper in May 6, 1978 sports section, when Chaplin pulled me off the track,he is in the same ranks of ideology of sport's politicking too.The story is there, but the photo is missing to go along with.
Henry
To 5 star xc runner,
Thank you for posting,Yes I enjoy running with you guys;however,my pace was grandy one by the time 35 minutes It was up in my chest. It was like I had run more than an hour.
I like training with slower pace runners and I will be in shape in-less period of training.
Let me know how you guys doing it and I will do the same.

The 79 day of training phase II,I was dead meat today,The massues I got last night was painful the guy push directly to the bone. So, I was crawling when I was running today.I ran for 134 minutes + sauna 20 minutes + swiming-pool 60 minutes + sauna 25 minutes + whirl-pool 20 minutes and after all that I have no tightness in the muscles of hips, quads, shoulders in those areas. The massues therapist put the pressure on is no more pains in those muscles.
That is how it went today.I will sleep very good to night I can tell.
