Um, I think if you go all in on distance that’s what this means (indoor & outdoor track team results don’t matter). And you’re always going to prioritize XC season for your distance athletes. Go get a head coaching job & make it an all throws program buddy.

I'm old enough to remember when there was no such thing as Director of Operations. Duties were split between the coaching staff and if your program had a large enough budget you had an office assistant....aka.....Secretary.

The director of Operations only does what the head coach instructs them to do. If you think the director of Operations is the most important hire....you are completely ignorant to how it goes in DI track

For most programs this is true. Not at Stanford. And not for a guy who’s demonstrated multiple times he can’t manage a robust program. Chris Miltenberg rarely told Jess Riden what to do - that’s why he brought her to Chapel Hill. Neither did Beth Alford Sullivan & neither did Greg Metcalf.

lol a Director of Ops is essentially a secretary. Some do more than others, but I imagine a secretary for a major company's CEO would do some pretty important things too.

That's not true. For the most part it's who you know, of course, but if you're killing it at your school and not a total douche you will gradually know more people. I get it, it doesn't always work that way sometimes but in a vacuum that's the idea.

McDonough recruited and coached mostly NJ guys to a D3 NCAA win (and other podium finishes) while he was at NYU. Considering NYU's academic rigor, high tuition, and limited financial aid, that was amazing.

At Stockton he'll be able to recruit NJ kids with in-state tuition and more "comfortable" academics. I predict a podium finish in four years, tops.

Freaking hilarious that's the best job McDonough could get. He is universally reviled among college coaches in the northeast.

The challenge for Utah is that they are distance focused and have a butt load of talent. It doesn't seem that they are getting a fraction of the results they should get given the talent they have. A lot of their women get slower and a lot miss many seasons.

Looking at their track roster, they have about 20 true distance women (might be a middle distance girl in that count). That includes 4 Internationals in the long distance group. At least 12 of those women came to Utah with 3200m times (or 3000m equivalent times) under 11-minutes. They have four girls who came with sub 10-minute 3000m times, and girls as fast as 10:13 for 3200m in high school.

It seems that a PAC-12 Power-Five school, with 20 long distance women, strong internationals and that many girls coming in with sub-11 3200m times should be at least qualifying for xc nationals every year (nearly every year) and should be well represented at NCAA I National Prelims and Finals in Outdoor Track.

Utah may not care though. XC and Track are low interest sports for many administrators and it may be that as long as there are no complaints, violations or issues it doesn't matter.

Who cares about Stanford? Who is Uconn hiring? All of the coaches that were on the women's staff are no longer listed on the website so Greg Roy has 3 hires to make.

They definitely need a throws coach. Maybe one more sprint assistant and one more distance coach? Does Dubs want to go back to his alma mater?

Hell no he is making bank at VTech. They are hiring the UMBC throws coach last I Heard. I only know there was a sprints guy from Ohio and one from Northeast that we’re looking. But no clue how strongly. No clue how they replace JJ as far as coach position. But I think Roy is all set just waiting on paper work.

With the results it would appear the head coach and the admin may have the same amount of interest in the sport...

And he should get hired. We all learn more from our failures that our successes. Knowledge comes with time (provided effort is given). Wisdom comes from experience, both good and bad (which requires time). Provided Kevin learns from previous experience (has gained wisdom), he is undoubtedly more qualified and better than a young start up coach.
