Agreed re the House, and no question trumpers may be much more motivated knowing they can actually win. We will see trump rallies without a shred of doubt. Even if trump is actually embroiled in a heap of legal trouble he will be out there and will yield extra votes. They cannot profit as much from the lie machine without someone like him.

The Rs don't have a good shot at the Senate. Sure, they will do everything to retake GA, and may do so but they will suffer losses in other states you mentioned. Trump is going to worsen things for the Senate, and at least one of his idiot family members will run.

I'd argue the Rs didn't get body slammed at all

they barely lost the WH, gained many, many seats in the House and did far better than expected in the senate.

If I were a trumper I'd say 'omigod we would have won everything if it werent for the pandemic or if the D had been anyone but biden.'

Plus they get to heat up the base by saying they have to vote to overcome D cheating.

So with that attitude why would you change anything?

I'd bull forward with sedition and trump, relying on how the Prez' party always loses in midterms to secure the wins.

It is apparent that is what they think they are doing. They laid a foundation for creating the current conservative and after watching them vote in record numbers and storm the capitol for an orange make up wearing conman and sore loser, they really believe in the trump strategy. In a sense, the GOP did die leading up to 2016 and this is their fully developed new version, the GQP.

Ok, you convinced me. I do believe if not for COVID (and thus trump not letting hundreds of thousands die) he would have won and they would have kept the Senate. Watching Dems win GA was a thing of beauty, but when you see the razor thin margins it really took a monumental effort (Stacey) and COVID which exposed trump's ineptitude and recklessness. The question is whether they need trump visible to achieve similar excitement and results.

Spot on. One of the comments was regarding corporate donors and whether they will support trumpers over moderate Rs like Cheney. The answer of course is that they will support anyone who has a shot at winning and willing to do their bidding. GQPers have quickly learned from trump that there are untapped gold mines with the base - they will happily open their wallets for any “patriot” cause. So even if corporations limit their support for trumpers out of fear of getting cancelled, there are other sources of cash.

Another comment: the current GOP is an abomination.

Still a bit crazy to me that McQarthy is openly taking orders from the stone cold loser trump. He’s the damn H minority leader with the ability to push the party away from total Trump dependence. It’s like Trump has a hold of everyone’s darkest secrets.

Here’s why Cheney will definitely be ousted:

Lying is a core competency in the GQP. It’s the most fundamental and basic requirement.

Independents and moderates (assuming some still exist) will be hesitant to vote for candidates embracing the big lie. Most are sick of trump and although his support will help a republican candidate earn the nomination, it will hurt them in general elections.

If the economy continues to do well and if Joe doesn't get too progressive with identity politics, police bashing and open borders, the Republicans are in trouble.

Don't count Liz Cheney out in the long game though. Her very effective letter in the Washington post made her truly a difficult person to attack without selling your soul.
