Whether we like it or not, Stanford is the most important place for distance running in the US. More top level performances have come out of Stanford than any other place in the country. With next year being an Olympic year Stanford will become a central place for athletes to try and run fast. Therefore, having a person that understands this importance is crucial. And that person is the Director of Operations/Meet Director. I'd say that the person who was doing that job before (Jess Riden) and did an amazing job was much more important than some of the other slackass assistant coaches who Miltenberg had. You could have gotten rid of some of the assistants and no one would have known. So JJ Clark should place a very high priority on who the next Meet Director is.
So who is your pick to shepherd American distance running into 2020 and beyond?
For the few major jobs that opened this year it is moving crazily slow.

I doubt a head coach would leave a situation where things were going “okay” to downgrade back to assistant. I don’t have details but that move doesn’t seem wise if things were going well.

I don't mind that you are head of the Jess Riden fan club. More power to you. But you said the hiring of Stanford's Director of Ops is more important than the other assistant coaching positions. And I say it isn't even debatable. I will state it again in plain English. The people coaching the Stanford athletes are infinitely more important than the person who decides where the team hotel will be for the Mt. Sac Relays!
They didn't pay the previous DirOps $100K+ and made her an Assistand A.D. becuase of her hotel reservation skills.

Son, you clearly don't understand how this works. The better Ops person they hire, the more the actual coaches can focus on coaching...the better job everyone will do and the more you will be coached. JJ's ability to manage a full program (much less one of the most robust meet hosts in the country) has been his biggest downfall in the past...so you better be hoping he finds the right person to help him manage this. We can go on all day long about what hire is a higher priority and for whom...I'll allow the distance hires - who will probably be assisting JJ with coaching you - is probably *slightly* more important to your personal interests while the ops hire is FAR more important to the rest of the country, but your former coach himself admitted that Jess was the one that ran things. If JJ wants you well looked after, he prioritizes the ops person far more than the average program. Thank me later. And no, I haven't posted on this topic yet.

Gavin is still in the same position, in charge of recruiting men and assisting Mick. Mackenzie will take the role previously held by Jill Miller, who took the head position at Northwestern.

The first rule of holes is to stop digging. And boy, do you like to dig. You completely embarrass yourself by doubling down, and tripling down with your indefensible logic about the Director of Ops job at Stanford. We all know you want the position to be equal to the actual coach. I guess you feel insecure that everyone knows it's not. It is painfully obvious to everyone that you are a director of ops somewhere. And son, there is nothing wrong with it. But leave the coaching to the coaches. And you can go ahead and do your administrating. Nobody is making fun of the director of ops position. But enough is enough!!!!
