well heck.
I thought those crazy kids were going to make it.
Not sure why this is so sad. Just seemed they had things going in the right direction.

I am not sure you got my point. Everyone existing homeowner I know who has an EV and installed home wall mounted EV charger had to pay an electrician to install a 240V outlet. Tesla works with several electrical contractors who do the outlet and charger installation under contract with them. If the 240V outlet was already in place a homeowner could install the wall charger themselves and plug it in.
You are saying that people would install the 240V outlet in existing homes because the government will pay for it?
Or are you just saying that the government should cover the cost of the outlet in new homes?
I agree that getting those outlets into homes would help drive adoption.
There is already a federal tax credit for charger installation, but I don't think it covers the full cost. I haven't looked at the details because it went into effect after mine was already installed.
Claiming a tax credit for installing a 204V outlet is optional. Energy tax credits are optional.
The vast majority of existing homes do not have 240V outlets that allow for more complete overnight charging. People can install those, take a tax credit (which does not exist), and then claim that as a feature when they sell a home.
If my home had such an outlet I would have installed a wall charger for our daughter to use when she visits us. Right now she plugs into a 120V outlet. I could install the wall charger myself. I have to hire an electrician to do that work. We don't have a Tesla so there is that. My wife will get an EV as her next car. We will keep my Hybrid RAV4 as a long-drive vehicle.
Scary graph shows the deadly effect Covid had on Americans over 60.
Not a consolation, but a silver lining of a dark cloud: This should help SS stay solvent longer. Although there are many pieces to that puzzle and this is just one.

Lie after lie after lie. The contempt of (some) GOP leaders for the voters is just appalling.

Did you just say that the bright side of a bunch of old people dying is that it will help with social security solvency?

He nailed it. Blatant lying is not only goes unpunished, it is a prerequisite to being in the GQP. It is no longer possible for an honest person to survive and thrive in that party. But like he said, it works on their base like magic. Also, you can’t fight against it from the outside. Once enough of them repeat a lie several times, it’s cemented and others run in circles committing their time to fact checking.
A reminder that Biden is working his a$$ off for the country, and the other guy... well

Okay so the guy is on Day 105 now, and his thread is on page 213. Barely over 2/day. That's a comeback from when it was below 1.5, but it looks like most of the posts are still about Trump, so in reality that thread has just migrated over here. Ironic! This is now the President Trump Thread II.
Biden's working his azzoff all right. aZZZZZZZ
Only sleepier thing is this thread.
Thanks for the information keep sharing such informative post keep suggesting such post.

it's like the GOP looked around at all the role models in world, overlooked Washington, FDR and Lincoln and chose Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage instead.
Psychotic.
And yes, allegiance to a party that lies to your face every day because you are too afraid to tell the truth is how the USSR and Nazi Germany got going.

Yeah, he said it. This is rather distasteful, but it is reality.
I once read that the black plague resulted in a massive economic boom. About a third of the people died. Those who were still alive at the end of the plauge took control of all the leftover stuff and suddenly everyone was richer.
The same thing is happening now on a much smaller scale. A lot of people are receiving their inheritance a few years early.
As for social security, I wonder if the pandemic really will be helpful in the long term. I'm guessing that a lot of people put off having kids. So there will be this missing generation of workers to pay into the system unless we let in a lot more immigrants.
On that note, it would be much ,more economical to not treat cancer patients or anyone living with a terminal illness.
Distasteful, but reality.

Seems like 'silver lining' is an accurate term.
silver lining

an advantage that comes from a difficult or unpleasant situation.

I'll agree with Fats that big macro things like Social Security solvency are very complicated and difficult to piece together. For example it looks like we're in for a period of inflation because of the plague. That will increase payments to SS recipients. Unless balanced by increased tax receipts, that will cancel out some improvement in solvency.
Plus the baby bust that Fats points out. Except the hard part SS is facing is getting through the baby boomers...boomers will be mostly gone by the time we notice a lack of workers in 20 years. from the plague.
My understanding is that once the boomers are out of the SS system it will be smoother sailing.

that's an absurd comparison.
Not treating cancer patients would be an active choice.
Recognizing that 500,000 people will not get SS payments due to forces beyond our control is simply recognizing a fact. It is not an active decision to cut off 500,000 seniors from SS.
I think recognizing facts on the ground is what we should all be doing.
No. Biden is not smarter than a 5th grader. 😂😂😂
