On the virus front...
Vaccinations are down 1 million/day from the peak - down ~30%.
At the current pace of vaccinations (which will not be sustained), the US will reach 70% rates on July 26. Given the reluctance of large numbers of Americans to get vaccinated, it is likely we will never reach 70%. There will need to be substantial incentives put in place in order to reach that level.
New England continues to lead in getting residents vaccinated. By percentage of residents with at least 1 shot, NE states occupy the top 5 slots and the 6th NE state (RI) is 7th.
I haven't seen anything about it, but I wonder if NH has gone to a single shot strategy to get to as many arms as possible like the UK. In NH 61% have received at least one shot (1st among states) and 30% are fully vaccinated (below national average). No other state has a similar ratio.
Over the last 2 weeks in the US:
Cases are down 27%
Hospitalizations are down 7%
Deaths down 8%
MI, CO, PA, RI, & DE are the states with the highest cases per capita. Cases in all those states except CO are decreasing. Cases are rising in 11 states. Looks like the PNW may be the next area to be a "hotspot."
Here in GA...
Cases continue to go down - 14% in last 2 weeks. Positive test percentage is at an all-time low (4.6%). Deaths are dropping and are now at lowest levels since March 2020. Hospitalizations are lowest since June 2020
Vaccinations are slow. 35% with one shot and 25% fully vaccinated. I'd be surprised if we get to 50%. However, 90% of residents 65+ have been at least partially vaccinated which means the most vulnerable have a high level of protection.
