Truthfully the pay level for so many of these jobs is deplorable. A collegiate head coach does alot--far more than just write workouts and coach at practice. And it requires actual skill and experience. Why do schools continue to pay so many of them like custodians?

I agree. College XC and Track coaching salaries have not moved much in the last 20 years. It's crazy that schools are still only paying $45k to $55k on average for most xc and track coaches. I recruit 60 plus kids that give your school say $10,000+ on average back to school and you give me a salary of $55k with an assistant that makes $30k-$35k? Then a budget of like $35k to $50k and I have to fundraise? Make it make sense. My job is to find the losses the school takes on in other sports like football!

This is a joke, right? They have trouble retaining and graduating students in general, not just athletes. It is located in a high crime area and has an enrollment that is smaller than many high schools. It is basically the school of last resort for kids in the area, and was almost forced to close down about a decade ago due to lack of funding. Parents would threaten kids that they needed to get their grades up or they would end up at Chicago State.

If I see a kid is going to Chicago State I start the transfer countdown. Have you seen the graduation rate there? The only reason anyone ever takes a job there is because they need one and it doesn't pay poorly.

So Chicago State a HBCU of the North? Just looking at their staff and rosters, it gives that vibe.

It doesn't meet the technical definition of a HBCU. It is a PBI (Predominantly Black Institution). It primarily serves non-traditional students (commuters, part-time students, adult students). The graduation rate sucks, but that is partly because many students are working while attending classes and will take more than 6 years to graduate. Having lived in the Chicago area and been on campus a few times, it boggles my mind why anyone who didn't already live and work on the south side would go there.

Does anyone know the VMl Candidates and who gets an on campus interview? Who is a good fit? Seems that Zack Scott was a legend there with decades experience.

Hearing Ryan Vanhoy could be moving on from Cal Poly after this season. Heard some chatter at Regionals that a bigger school may be involved. Would be a big loss for Cal Poly.

UC Davis does seem to open up quite often. I wonder why?

Ngoni has been the Head Track Coach since 2020 if I am not mistaken...? And in that time-frame there have been 3 XC Head coaches; Maybe the AD is tired of the turnover? Looks like they are looking for a unified Head Coach for both XC and TF programs.
