Well done to Hocker - that was a perfectly executed race.
Jakob fan boys - like I’ve said time and time again - he only does well in DL races with pacers and lights. He actually can’t pace himself. He said in his post race interview that he had no idea how fast he was going - he just felt good. To be fair he was as quite humble in the interview.
Kerr - probably ran as well as he could. He beat Jakob and I just think Hocker had the better kick (and found space).
What a race!
Jakob was beaten today. But he already has an Olympic gold medal in the 1500, two golds and two silvers in world championships, six European championship golds, a world championship indoor silver, and four Euro indoor golds and a silver. And he's 23. He has run well in many championship races. Today, he paced his race poorly and still ran a time that would have broken the Olympic record, except that three guys broke it by even more.
Any post race interview with Jacob or kerr online?
I caught Kerr on EuroSport. He seemed genuinely proud of himself and happy that he improved from bronze to silver. The next guy was quite humble. Would love to see what Jakob had to say.

"He only does well in DL races with pacers and light".
Olympic gold, world silver x2, european champion and front running a 3:28 is not doing well?
Why did Jakob front run with a 54 high opening. It was never going to happen lmao. Cole Hocker peaked and had masterful tactics!
I mean I was surprised when I saw him go to the front so quickly, I was even more surprised when I saw the rough 300m split because I then knew it was going to be sub 55. I just don't get that. In his 3.26, with pacers, with lights, in a one-off race, he was over a second slower through 400 - that is considerable, especially for a strength based guy and not a speed based guy.
I think either Jakob massively overestimated his ability, or let the occasion get to him. I never expected to ever write those words about him.
Also, this is the greatest 1500m of all time. Easily. Funnily enough it matches the exact time from Hicham in Seville 1999 - down to the hundreth, but this was infinitely better with any one of 4 guys with a legit chance to win in the final 120 vs a glorified TT that was won easily.
Hocker will never execute a race as good as that no matter how long he runs. That is the mark of a champion - to do that when it counts the most.
It makes no sense to me…it was pretty much agreed that his best bet was a drive from 1000m out, not lead the entire thing.
But if we want to do conversions, that front run pretty much puts him in 3:26 territory when paced, but it’s obvious he is now a dud in championship races.

Maybe you should stick to making hundreds of posts a day in political threads. This thread is for running fans only.
Potato Tim low key made that race as he bridged the gap that Jakob took in the third lap. Would have been really interesting if Jakob had pulled that 10-15 meter lead.

Kerr ran a perfect race to be honest. Cole probably ran a little less distance since he got the inside pass but also just took a huge step forward. I don't think Kerr could have expected to run any better tactically or fitness-wise than he did today.
What a fantastic race. Props to all. The podium all hit PBs and 3:27s. Can't really ask for much more than that. Hocker my man.
Jakob's a bit of a choker. He's had Kerr in his head rent-free and went all out to burn them off and ended up getting passed.
This might be the worst take of all. This was his only option of winning and it clearly still wasn't enough. Don't know what you expected him to do.
No chance this was his only way of winning. He went out in 54. 56.-55.-55. would’ve been the same total 1200 time and it would’ve been much more beneficial to him and more detrimental to the field
I also don’t doubt he could win a race that went out slower if he didn’t lead until 600-700
I remain in shock after the 1500. Jakob is the sport’s Icarus. He tried to solo a wr and blew up. Breathtaking ambition, breathtaking hubris. Everything about this race, the buildup, the execution is epic, truly worthy and legendary. Truly a race that will never be forgotten.
Jakob blaned nobody but himaelf in tv interview. First lap too fast, felt very good and started faster than he thought. Have seen him much more depressed after champoinships than this
He didn't credit Kerr in '23 but was absolutely respectful to Wightman as being the superior runner in '22. I don't think he's ever come across as a sore loser. He was sick in '23, it was his only loss of a season that included numerous insanely fast times, and he got sniped after leading for 1400m in a global championship. He referred to Wightman in '22 as being the better runner that day, and he was. I don't think Kerr was the better runner in '23, he legitimately was "just the next guy." When has he ever been depressed after a championship race?
