I'm sure there are very bad people on both sides of the war.

However, a murderously aggressive invasion makes it easy to see the Right and Wrong. Thanks Russia!

I can't remember how long ago it was when I first started posting on this site. But one of the first things I noticed was the huge amount of grammar nazis here. What I've noticed over time is if other posters understand what the message is, that you're trying to get on the board, they usually give you a pass for spelling and punctuation.

No one is perfect. Well, maybe except for you and a few others. And if you or others insist on being grammar nazis, try staying on topic while also trying to be snarky and in your own mind smarter than everyone else. Just being a stand alone grammar nazi might get you some respect from your mother, but from everyone else in the world your marginalized. Nobody wants to be friends with grammar nazis.

You can stick your less than heart felt, "You're welcome!" somewhere in a very dark and smelly place. And try sticking on topic instead of pretending your an ancestor Merriam-Webster and his dictionary.

Are you suggesting that Russia is going to commit war crimes by executing the most famous POWs in the world? Or are they going to have a mock trial and convict them of war crimes before executing them (also a war crime)? I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised as Russia is a third-world sh*thole, that is corrupt to its core, including its “judicial” system. You do realize that Ukraine has captured thousands of Russian soldiers and their fate rests on the treatment of any soldiers that Russia captured in Mariupol.

You acknowledge "very bad people" on the Ukraine side. Then blithely dismiss it. "War crimes? Hey, I'm down with that... all for a good cause!"

We're talking cartel-style butchery here. There is a video of a Ukraine soldier gouging eyeballs out of a Russian soldier and urinating in the sockets.

Defending against a tyrant and villains does not require becoming a tyrant and villains.

If Russian soldiers don’t want to be victims of war crimes, perhaps they should have stayed in Russia rather invading Ukraine. Putin can assure that no more Russians are the victim of war crimes by simply un-illegally annexing Crimea and removing all their troops from Ukraine. I know you want to create a false moral equivalence between Russia and Ukraine, but there is none. Russia is 99.995% wrong and Ukraine is 0.005% wrong. You seem to harp onUkraine’s transgressions, while sweeping Russia’s behavior under the rug.

You keep forgetting why this mess is going on in the first place. Russian speaking Eastern Ukrainians have been terrorized by AZOV since 2014.

Now AZOV soldiers will have to answer for what they've done. Don't be mistaken, authorities in Donetsk know all these guys by their names and also know who has done what. They're kinda famous there.

I personally don't advocate for an eye for an eye, or a tooth for a tooth. However I've never been in a war, in the trenches, surrounded by the blood and guts that use to be your friend. Almost no one has, maybe just a very few. Again I'm not in favor of the mistreatment of soldiers. However some soldiers do very brutal things to the dead or prisoners. When you're out in the field for days/weeks you start to lose a little bit of your humanity, and you'll do things you never even thought you're capable of.

I've spoken to hundreds of war vets from many wars. Many of them, not all, or most, but many of them told me they did things during combat that they wished they hadn't. The things they did still haunt them to this day. Stories from those who are still alive make the skin crawl. My wish is for the WWI, WWII and Korea Vets who are no longer with us to be able to find peace during their eternal slumber. Their stories were horrific as hell also.

You do realize that there were crimes committed by both sides in Donbas? You know, where Russian soldiers were fighting on behalf of the pro-separatist terrorists? The ones that shot down a civilian airplane, amongst other horrific things.

So, if we’re going to make folks “answer for what they’ve done” then I guess we should start with Putin, everyone that supports him, and the entirety of the Russian military.

p.s. If you think Putin has some idealistic intentions about helping Russian speakers in Ukraine, you’re an even bigger moron than I realized. Putin doesn’t even care about his citizens in Russia!

And now imagine men, that already are somewhat not alright in their heads even at peaceful times. They get together in a group, where sick behaviour is encouraged and get issued weapons and billions of $ in military support.

That's AZOV for you. The US already denied military support to them in 2018 and now of a sudden it's ok, because it's Russia they're fighting.

Best analogy would be if you finally get fed up with your sisters husband beating her and decide to go to their place with a baseball bat. I don’t think it’s because it’s specifically Russia they’re fighting, or there would have been a stronger response when Russia invaded and annexed Crimea. I think if almost any country had decided they were going overthrow the government of Ukraine and annex the country, the US / NATO would have been on board with supporting AZOV to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty. It’s just serendipitous that Russia was crazy enough to try.

Putin's siege of Azovstal succeeded in making heroes out of the Azov battalion. RU forces had to abandon Kharkiv in order to mount an offensive in Donetsk and Luhansk. Had RU held and controlled Kharkiv, they would have had an important logistics supply chain link from Belarus. They also had the possibility of encircling UA forces fighting RU in Donbas, which could have been devastating for UA forces. Now, they are at a stalemate with UA forces in Donbas with 40 billion in US military aid on the way. Mariupol is like scoring a touch down in the 4th quarter when you are down 42-0. RU has not really gained any ground in Donbas. It has just taken over areas that were already held by pro-Russian separatists.

It's hypocrisy to condemn some brutal war crimes while justifying others.

You spend 95+% of your time crying about Ukrainian mis-deeds and <5% talking about Russia's. Both sides have committed atrocities -- it's war, after all. Only one is is murderously invading another.

If you want to demand that Ukraine 'play nice' when their lives are at stake, you simply must do the same of Russia who sits in far, far, far more morally despicable position.

But you don't. You madpost about Ukraine many times a day and seem to care less that all of this is happening because Russia decided to invade a neighbor. Your biases are clear and your apologism is not even creative.

Looking back in history it's easy to see the mistakes made before our time. Armchair Quarterbacking, borrowing a sports metaphor, is what all humans do. It can be very helpful if leaders and voters learned lessons from the past. However almost 80 years after WWII the world is full of new leaders who don't think the lesson from the past are applicable to them or they just never learned history.

Or maybe it something else. But just look around the world and take notice of who's in charge of what countries, world leaders don't seem to remember the horrors from the past. And seem intent to keep repeating them. It's just a hand full of men, trying to control the whole world. Why, oh why do the billions of Earthlings leave it up to a hand full of men to rule the world?

And I’m happy to be called a hypocrite - I’ve been called worse than far better people than yourself. Again, you’re creating a false moral equivalence between those who choose to do bad things (Russia) and those who are forced to do bad things (Ukraine).

The entirety of your argument is brutal war crimes are OK if it's revenge.
