The fact no one has names on Stanford means no one knows who it may be or where the process is at. If it were Cali coaches, we'd have names. It's fun speculating, but crazy to think that if they get a couple distance coaches it opens up a couple more jobs after into XC season is underway.
One of the current USTFCCCA Hall of Fame Inductees dated and married one of his former athletes. It happens more than you might think.
It happens all the time. You hear about some and you don’t about others. This is why we don’t crucify the coaches. There’s an ACC, SEC, PAC-12 current coaches all married to former runners. General scheme of things they are adults. Doesn’t make it right but there are no laws being broken here.

You might not like it and it makes me uncomfortable but it can work out. Wetmore and Burroughs have been together for about 20 years so something was OK about the connection.

They are all still married to them after a long time. There’s also a former Big Ten coach that’s no longer coaching that’s been married to his former runner for about 20 years.

So what? It can work out. But wait until the athlete is no longer in a vulnerable position before beginning anything. I'd like to see statistics for the total number of coach/athlete relationships and of those, the number that ended in a positive manner. Better yet, gather statistics on ex-athlete perception of the relationship and how many would do it over again if given the chance.

Show us anecdotal evidence of any relationship ever where the ex-girlfriend has anything positive to say. Of course there are going to be some that are upset. The relationship ended. Like most people that end a relationship there’s going to be hurt feelings. You’re drama isn’t much of an argument.

Well, the concept of a coach dating an athlete seems highly unethical to me. If you can't control your feelings, at least disavail yourself of your position as coach before taking up with an ex-athlete. It's really wrong on so many levels. And it shows a complete lack of self control.

Well, the concept of a coach dating an athlete seems highly unethical to me. If you can't control your feelings, at least disavail yourself of your position as coach before taking up with an ex-athlete. It's really wrong on so many levels. And it shows a complete lack of self control.
Silly humans falling in love and doing dumb things. So unheard of. There’s nobody arguing it isn’t unethical. It absolutely is unethical. But it’s not a legal problem.
Problem is, you can't tell whether the one in a mentor role and position of authority groomed the pupil or athlete. The fact that many Cornell alumni and teammates take issue would imply that could be the case here.

It may not be a legal problem, assuming the young woman appreciates the "unethical" advances -- in hindsight.
So, its best to exercise good judgement and self control. If one must, wait until an athlete graduates before pursuing.
One cannot create a legal issue in “hindsight” if she willingly engages in the relationship. But that’s the gamble. Hell hath no fury. When the guy dumps her then she comes back and complains. Still not a legal issue just a message board issue. Better to steer clear.

Interesting choice. She was with the program last year, but that was her first year of track coaching. She has coached volleyball a number of years. She may be really great, but it seems like an odd choice in a small combined XC/Track program when the head coach will have to coach a lot of events.
