Frank Meza 2:53:10 at LA Marathon (70 years old) unofficial time (just finished)

So the only marathon there is any confidence that his time is valid is Boston at 4+ hours? And did he cheat to qualify for Boston? For a guy who is thought of as a running hero by Loyola, it appears that his only reason for running was to cheat.

I think the consensus was that his times at Pike's Peak were probably legit. I can't be bothered looking it up, but from memory, I believe back in 1988 he ran 4:44 for the round-trip. That would probably equate to, very roughly, a 3-hour marathon on a normal course (of course, he was about 39 years old at the time). After many years, he returned to Pike's Peak a few more times and ran in the 5:50 to 6-plus range. I'm guessing that represents his true ability - somewhere around 4-5 hours for a normal marathon, up until several years ago. Nowadays, I'd assume he can't run a marathon, because even if he could, he hasn't trained for it. I mean, if you knew you were going to cheat whenever you entered a marathon, it wouldn't make sense to also stay in marathon racing shape.

Regarding his enablers, I think Scott Dominguez has some answering to do. I don't think that was really him that posted on here, but it sounds like perhaps it was really him defending Frank in the LA Times. If so, that was pretty piss-poor considering the guy is a D.A. He HAD to have known that the facts didn't add up, and thus I think it's safe to say he was lying to protect his friend. Not a good example for someone in his position.

Guess the only thing to do now as far as identifying people in photos is to look for someone who we know and recognize as being a friend/associate/relative/whatever of Frank's which could help to answer questions re an accomplice. I'm also guessing a near impossible task.

Simple egocentrism at its finest. Once he pulled one off under 3 hours, he had to do more or look the fool as if age was catching up with him. I've said it 100's of pages ago, it's all about the ego, just like Kip. Then there's an email saying how humble he was???Just like Kip did.

This guy simply went too far and with the sleuths on this site and the Marathon Investigation site, he didn't have a chance with today's technology.

Think about it, you can actually look up someone's splits and photos, but when Oscar and Rosie pulled of their BS races on 79 and 80, it didn't exist. Regardless, the late Will Cloney had the balls to DQ him but gave him a chance to run a 10k at the same pace that he ran for Boston, 26.2 miles. Of course, he then said he doesn't want to race anymore---this after setting an age group record...yeah, that's what age group record holders do (insert major sarcasm).

He can't explain away the videos that someone found and posted, it's impossible. First it was a few seconds for a pee, then he's seen in at least 2 other spots on the course waiting on the side of the course until it was time to jump in and cover the next mat.

This is simply the most obvious case of cheating that I've ever seen. For all of his stops he had to have lost several minutes not just a few, yet he still broke the world record age group for 70 year olds.

Way back on the 5/22/2019 at 2:41PM I did my best to warn Frank and even reposted it a couple of times when I thought he'd become aware of this thread. Time to fess up Frank.

Yes, his time for the Pikes Peak Marathon in 1988 was 4:44:++, with the ascent portion in 3:03:00, which very roughly suggests something near three-hour ability on a normal sea-level course. That didn't seem suspicious to me, and his Pikes Peak times in more recent years (2009-2013), although placing him very high in his age group, also seemed reasonable to me.

Hiding behind the race card won’t obscure the real evidence that proves that Dr. Meza is a fraud. You do a disservice to our race by trying to use our Latino heritage to cover up Meza’s misdeeds and ongoing dishonesty.

I am well connected in the local Latino running scene. I am friendly with the guys who train in South Gate Park and Griffith Park. I know Frank from way back...West Valley Eagles and Aztlan Track Club Days. The vast majority of Latino runners I have spoken to about this case are convinced that Frank cheated. Case closed.
