Alcohol prevents the body from optimal recovery by suppressing the release of human growth hormone during sleep, and also slows the brain down. An athlete's brain needs to be active, alert, and oxygenated, not the other way around.
Drink tea, like the Kenyan runners do. (Whereas coffee is too much of a stimulant that can cause caffeine dependency.)
Replace your daily alcohol with daily tea and you will feel refreshed and energized.
