Yes, Heritage is very good. They are a deep team with two low sticks, one of whom will probably be top 10 at NXR, and one of whom may be top 30ish. Heritage does not have a history of performing high at state/NXR in recent years.
Niwot is also really good. They have a returning NXN champion. Niwot typically doesn’t open their legs up until desert twilight (yes, we all know they run at st vrain). Niwot also has a history of dominating at NXN and NXR after seemingly improving vastly over the course of the season.
Too close to call, and probably will continue to be too close to call until state as well, assuming they do not race each other beforehand.
My liberty bell thoughts are that Heritage is good, with Vista somewhat close and Boulder(!) looking better than thunderridge and creek imo in a state and NXR (super deep field) scenario. Having a big dropoff between your 5-6 is always a recipe for disaster, and Taylorsville was the only team to (barely) make this work at 2024 NXR. Girls run much more volatile races than boys do. I’m not too sure what the situation is for Utah girls right now. My top 4 Colorado teams are Niwot, Heritage, Vista, Boulder.
Boys side. Boulder is a step above the rest, probably slightly better than valor christian was last year (5th NXR) because of their depth. Times were insane. Ben Adams reminds all of us of Parker Wolfe. Summit is scary — where did that come from? Does anyone know if they got a new coach? Coaching changes for a school at 9,000 feet is extremely scary.
Other boys teams are certainly nonfactors when you account for Utah.

More coaches read these boards than you might realize, and when you do stuff like this, you make your team pretty unlikable. Just because you can be anonymous on these boards doesn’t mean it’s a good thing to be a jerk and be arrogant with teams. These are kids, you know. Ignoring sportsmanship on these boards just ends up reflecting badly on everyone.
Niwot had 13 girls with speed ratings above 100 at their first meet, including six freshman. And somehow I doubt that Addison Ritzenhein forgot how to run. Niwot is going to be a strong team, without question. Whether they’ll be better than Heritage is certainly an open question. But to act like Heritage should already be crowned as a state champion because they scored 95 points at Liberty Bell is touch premature.143 -

Liberty Bell is a significant net downhill screaming fast course. I think 45 of the top 50 boys ran PRs today. And most of the those boys would have run at NXR SW last year, which also ran super fast. Fair to say that the course ran pretty quick today.

Ben Adams is absurdly good. ~18 seconds faster than Wolfe in the 1600 at the same age. ~40 seconds in the 3200.
I feel like I saw someone say Summit got a coaching change somewhere but I cant confirm.

Come on now.It is sad to see that some want to spew hatred toward kids. The SW region is incredibly talented. From what I have seen from the girls side, they genuinely care about each other. They are competitors during the races, but afterwards are friendly and kind. These kids respect themselves and each other because their sport is based off of a time that they run, not based on a coaches opinion of them. Success only drives success. So rather than saying negative things about kids that are doing their best, we should be saying how lucky these kids are to have amazing competition. Niwot, Air Academy, Mountain Vista, Heritage, Fossil Ridge, Utah teams... All of them have paved the way for the SW region to shine at nationals. Without competitive events(flat courses or hilly, or short or whatever) they don't get to have experiences that shape them into the people they are. Each race allows the athletes to make connections to effort and training and form friendships with competitors, that may one day be their teammates in college. These kids are lucky to have the opportunity for competition.

Champlain valley VT wins. Then Shen - Bethlehem - Toga in that order (as I think most expected). Times were faster this year than last year so I’ll wait for the SR’s to get a better gauge but Champlain valley’s average was faster than Bethlehem’s last year (who placed 5th at nxn) they could be a sleeper for sure.
Someone in the NY thread said that Shen’s #4 is doing Soccer this year which is really unfortunate for them. They will still be a very very good team, but I realistically saw them as a podium threat at NXN before that news. Thier #1 does look incredibly strong though. Because all the top teams are in section 2, they will race eachother a lot and we will see how the season plays out.
all of Champlain Valley’s top 5 are seniors. Sounds like a big year for this program

Totally forgot they ran for Parker Panthers. I used to run by that group all the time on my runs. Chaparral would be a title contender if they had stayed and went there.

There were also rumors last summer (2024) that the Lattas were going to Mountain Vista, which was crazy because they already looked to be untouchable without any of them, and of course they ended up winning NXN without a Latta
