Proving again that leading the entire race is not a good strategy to win unless you are 2s faster…Boy what a run by MacKay who didn’t even have a great trip. Nikki of course ran perfect tactically and was the only one who had anything left. Tough for Sinclaire/Cory/Helen/Elise/Heather who all ran great but miss out.
Yeah but before this race Hiltz's best was a 3:58 converted from her mile, and Mackay I think had only run 3:59 to ESP's 3:56.00. No way to know that they were ready to drop 3:55s too. If you'd told me ESP would drop a 3:55 before the race I'd have bet good money she won. Also .01s pb for her to run 3:59.99 lol the thinnest of margins.
And to be fair, Johnson only ran .75 off her pb, not 2s slower. Also McGee and Cranny 3:57s still less than 2s slower. Although now I'd bet ESP can run 3:54 low.
Really tough break for Dean. He was right in the mix and looked smooth. Nice run for Rai. Was hoping for something just a touch faster but he looked great.
Howcome both Benjamin and SML don't contest the flat 400 also? They both have the speed for it and could both contest for the gold, and the schedule seems to make it doable.

I think it is a risk reward thing. Benjamin, more so, might not win the flat 400m at USAs. SML should do it, since she is by far the best, but she is coached by Bobby Kearse who is afraid of long boat rides to Europe.
