Yeah, I’d say I’m an average person. Middle class, married, 2 kids, a dog. I don’t presume to know what everyone is thinking. I’m just reading reports, such as the one from NPR (hardly a bastion of conservatism), and picking up on what I suspected to be the case. Most people see January 6th as a blight, but they don’t think that an entire political party is to blame.

The attempt failed, miserably. The Vice President, a Republican, certified the election. For all the people trying to say that any GOP is suspect due to Jan 6th, the fact that Trump’s own VP certified the election goes against that assertion.

Also consider the fact that, according to polling, Biden is LESS popular than Trump at the same point of their respective presidency. I’ve personally not heard anyone mention January 6th as a factor in how they will vote come midterms. The economy is usually the main issue they mention followed by healthcare, 2A, and crime in no certain order.

Could it affect 2024 if trump runs again? I could see that, but I honestly think the country will be sick of geriatric presidents by then that he wouldnt do well anyway.

I actually agree with you on most of your points. I think it'd be silly to blame all republicans for this as well. At the same time though, it's wrong to state it's all hype and that nothing happened. People should be in jail for this, imho.

Actually, you can go to prison for following illegal orders. If a military commander gives an order to a subordinate to kill innocent civilians the soldier carrying out the orders can be tried and found guilty and sent to prison.

The VP's oath of office is below. It says nothing about having to follow the President's orders.

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same: that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

And the President is not the AG's personal "client".

You provided a handful of numbers and tied them together using incoherent logic. Nothing about any of the numbers you provided proves any of your points. Even if there were "surges" or whatever, or if Biden got 80% of the mail in votes in certain areas, it proves nothing. You don't even supply a source for where you got these numbers, either.

No one thought the hearings would change anyone's vote. Their purpose is to establish a record of the events and those involved and to assist the DOJ in building a case for prosecution of certain individuals, should they decide to go that route.

It's simple.

Trump was well ahead in PA, WI, and Mi at midnight of election day.

Then all these late counted votes swung those states to Biden over the next few days as more than 80% of the "late" votes went to Biden.

The same surge did not take place in the congressional and gubernotorial races in those states.

This is not credible. Not even possible. You can call it incoherent all you want but it's logical and obvious.

I don’t know, the timing of the hearings paired with Biden’s anemic approval rating and the fact that it aired on most major networks seems like, at the very least, a politically advantageous distraction. There’s certainly merit to the hearings, I just can’t convince myself that the motives for the hearings are 100% altruistic.

Altruistic for whom? Everything Congress does is political. That doesn't mean what is presented is false or irrelevant. As far as the timing, it obviously took a while to go through thousands of documents and conduct 100s of interviews. When do you think the hearings should have been shown? And I'm guessing the networks covering this are getting higher ratings than for their regularly schedule daytime programming. Why wouldn't they show them?

There is a contingency of people who claim that the only motive to these hearings is to “preserve democracy”. I would argue that isn’t true.

I’m not making an argument that the hearings should have been postponed or not aired on the networks, just an observation that there is more to it than protecting democracy. Would republicans do the same thing? Absolutely.

So show us the surge only occurred in the Presidential race. And the fact the Rs down-ballot outperformed Trump does not say anything about when those votes were counted.

You have ZERO evidence. Bush won fair and square in 2000.

The only two thefts were 2016 and 2020. This is what we have degenerated to as a country. 2024 will be a farce of an election. We shall see who is left standing amidst the detritus of America's squelched soul.
