Runner’s world said it was a Vanish upper on an Escalante midsole...my guess is that it might be an Escalante Racer midsole but it’s too hard to tell as a spectator or from pictures but I very well could be wrong and it’s actually an Escalante midsole.

Riley himself came closer to attributing it to the shoes than anyone else. Or did you forget the whole 'refusing to take a sponsor because I didn't want to have the regret of wondering what could have happened had I worn the Alphafly' thing?
Jake wore the shoe because he wanted its advantages.
He PRd on one of the hardest marathon courses we've seen in a while--on a windy day.
The shoes were a huge factor for him, and Riley is the one saying it.
To answer the question, I think the oddest shoe someone wore was the Ultraboost.
I understand that a few people were just happy to be there and ran tempo for whatever reason, but still.

Kind of a funny post. I know it sounds ridiculous, but the whole Japan thing seems pretty far from being engraved in stone as of now. I mean, it really could be 2022, right? It is just not that far-fetched.
I'm in the camp that would like to see another Trials. You know, from a fan perspective. 2-1/2 years out would be preposterously long for a selection race.
