What degree and experience do you have? What is the life experience that you gained that us working types somehow missed out on? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed being single in my teens and twenties, but I did it while getting my degree, working full time and getting my professional licensing which have made my life much easier now that I am in my mid 40s. Some of the greatest experiences in my life have been falling in love, getting married and being a parent. I have travelled to fun places, climbed lots of mountains, fished lots of rivers and oceans, but at the same time, I did all those things while being financially responsible. My wife has a cousin that sounds a little like you. Decided to go live life out in California after graduating with a degree in Recreation or some other worthless major and not pursue the evils of a career, wealth, and a family. He is now in his late 40s, lives in his parent's basement, fried his brain doing a bunch of drugs in Hollywood, and has no money and no real job (unless you call substitute teaching and coaching high school tennis a job).
If you're mechanically or mathematically inclined. Go to a 2 year tech school for anything you like. I would recommend something like a civil engineer technician. You can make good money working a lax office job and it's very common for technicians to come into the field later in life. More often than not they are ex-laborers who wanted to quit working in the field and get a more stable office job. Tech school is for more than just mechanics.
If you are female you can become a coach at the collegiate level. Are you able to apply for a job? That along with being female is all you need.

it's possible, but in the same post she announced retirement she mentioned that she's becoming a professional coach with BTC so idk could be a coincidence?

The Financial Services industry will actually take entry level people and let them move into management. Anyone with a college degree can get a job working loan accounts, collections, etc. After a few years and good performance, you can start moving up to team leader and then various management spots. The EVPs will be from big name schools and part of the meritocracy, but most any management spot beneath them is open to anyone who works their way up. Oh, yeah. The work is horribly boring and awful. But management jobs pay very well.
In all honesty, you should meet with a career counselor. There are all kinds of careers out there that are in high demand and pay well but no one knows about. I know a guy who is a water treatment engineer. There is a huge shortage of people who can work at water treatment plants from just the operations side to the engineering. Anyone who is qualified is hired.

I did this. Took college courses to brush up on math starting at age 30. Started exams at 32. Entry level hire at 33. FSA by 37.
It was tough and time consuming. I spent 7 years studying on nights and weekends (there are breaks between exams of course). On the bright side I make $150k+ with 6 years experience in the field without even managing people yet.
So...maybe? Depends how much you like your social life and family. Would not try this if you have young kids. Some people do it with kids but it’ll take you more than 10 years to finish exams probably.

There are strikes in Chicago and Oakland right now that have turned violent. They are two of the nation's largest unions.
Do you think that's not an indicator of serious troubles in much smaller districts where the unions have little leverage?
Sure, get a government job for long-term security, but expect to be bored and frustrated till you get to retirement.
If you have some mechanical aptitude, there are a lot of decent paying careers you can get into with a 2 year degree. HVAC, manufacturing engineering, industrial automation, field engineer, machinist. Play your cards right and that 2 year degree will count towards a BS in engineering, which you can get part time while you work. If you're personable, sales engineers can make very good money without a ton of experience.

As are electricians and those doing HVAC. A friend of mine has a son that graduated from high school in June. He's working as an HVAC technician and making ok money ($20/hr) right out of HS with no experience. In a few years he will be making some serious cash.

Right out of the gate YOU have no idea what you are talking about. There are no upper age requirements for police officers in almost all agencies. There is a minimum age requirement which is 21 to become a fully commissioned law enforcement officer. I've known too many retired military personnel that went into corrections and law enforcement who were closer to 40. Their prior military experience had nothing to do with getting the job except veterans preference points added to exam scores.
