No one ever even mentions this as a record, but no one is ever going to have a .947 winning percentage and 18 wins in relief like Roy Face did for the Pirates. It's a pretty odd record, because he'd have to GET the lead and then hold it, or lose it and regain it. He certainly wasn't coming in to PROTECT the lead, which is the main function of relievers nowadays.

The old time batting records were in the days of those gloves that were flat and chubby. Not the giant baskets of today. Balls that are easily caught now, or even sensationally caught in the outfield, were not being pulled in "back in the day." Those balls were going through the infield or out to the wall. Hence, the higher batting averages, triples, and maybe even DiMaggio's streak.
