That's the problem with "pacemakers." The races are artificial and boring until the pacemakers drop out and actual racing begins.

Paul Chelimo is a great guy, and a great American. Why would you name call him? He has a right to his opinion. He is a professional runner that understands the sport better than most everyone on this board. He has a vested interest in the sport and the distances that are in question.
Distance running is a very healthy pursuit. Yes it is a more healthy running pursuit then sprinting and it provides a greater range of participation years. I am in my mid-50’s and can’t sprint worth crap - my body can’t take it but I can still run distance and therefore can relate better to distance events. I love to watch sprint events as well. I buy lots of running shoes and running gear. I even bought an Audi coincidently after watching a diamond league event in NYC that was sponsored by Audi. Maybe it was subliminal
maybe not, maybe I would have bought the car anyhow. I will say this, if the distance events are cut, I will be less inclined to watch. If people don’t watch, adverizers will take notice real fast.
I’ll repeat myself in saying the IAAF are a bunch of nummies. They need to think, a lot harder, about the fan base that butters their bread and buys the sponsors products and services.
No more Diamond League 5000s isn't the reason the general population doesn't exercise bud. Chelimo can have his opinions but that comment is clearly coming from his emotions of being pissed about this move.

I want to start be stating I have a lot of respect for elite 5000m/10000m track athletes. That said, except for the last 10% of each race the events are boring to watch. I have never been asked to race 5000m/10000m officially. I have done 5000m/10000m TT. The difference between Bataan Death March and 5000m/10000m on track, fortunately 5000m/10000m on track does not last as long. Boring to watch and boring to participate so 5000m/10000m are awful x2.
Who are the elite world class 5K/10K gals/guys who cannot be elite in either 3K or Marathon?
UH. dude this can be said of many sports. F1, etc. The point is to be predicting what you think will happen. Many sports are 'boring' early in the event, from football to cricket. That is the essence of sport. Does anyone agree?

it would be better to see the pace makers tuck into the middle of the pack and save it for the kick.
