As for Kipchoge vs. Rupp, which one has more appeal to an American audience and a worldwide audience? The answer is Kipchoge on both counts by a landslide. It is racism/nationalism plus Salazar-Oregon bias that puts Rupp up to that level.

I'm sure they'd love someone to leak contract $$$ if they could. Running is a small-ish industry and you couldn't really do that without being taken down. Confidentiality clauses could void your athletes contract, etc, idk really what else but you don't want to get Nike angry and have a reason to sue.

Non-statistical 'fixes' often help reveal actionable number bases from guesstimates

Noting the number of agents venturing an opinion on each athletes base salary might add some gravitas to the numbers. Cluster points might enlighten as much as medians if sample size is large enough.

Eliminating the high and low 15% of the answers and median those gives a two median spread that might help tighten up those ranges.

Specific info from a real contract >>Shoeco offered $50ooo athlete countered $80ooo settled at $58ooo No athlete name attached might throw some light on the process.

For me personally Kipchoge has a greater appeal, but the average American might be more likely to know who Rupp is than Kipchoge. I'm not sure.

I am suprised Kipchoge isn't making millions a year, he's one of those names that transcends the sport.

Guys like El Guerrouj, Bekele, Kipchoge -- I'm surprised they can't basically ask for whatever contract they want (like Usain Bolt, but to a lesser extent).

What utter garbage this salary guessing game is. So a tiny sampling of agents can be trusted to give honest data about many about whom they don't have the foggiest notions??? They are out to protect and serve their own athletes, and to even build up some of their athletes' chances at making more money. Giving honest assessments of salaries and endorsements is so laughably ridiculous.

My first thought: “There’s a lot of money in this nerd sport.”

No, Rupp is American, and is naturally more marketable in America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, and is therefore a more marketable commodity than Kipchoge despite the indisputable fact that Kipchoge is superior at marathon. Just a wild guess: I would imagine Kipchoge is more popular in Kenya than Rupp. Yet I would not call the Kenyans racist for feeling that way.

Why would you eliminate the joke answers if you were using median as the measure of central tendency? The point of the median is to reduce the impact of outliers.

Quite cool that the highest paid athlete in track and field, by far, is a woman. Any other sports that are that way? Gymnastics?

Quit acting like you freaking solved the lack of transparency in track and field salaries. The response rate was pathetic There aren’t enough coaches agents and insiders to give any meaningful results. Not to mention you give no data on the “agents”

I can go out and find six people who can guess. I bet most pros are laughing at this article about how stupid it is. And most the wanna be agents think they’re going to use information to get better deals.

I think most of the estimates were over inflated.
