No, you're not getting it. Idiot or not, your coach's job means that he, not you nor any of the other guys in this relay nor anyone else on your team, gets to decide what events people run. You're here asking how to get out of running the relay. You can keep nagging your coach to change his mind right until it's time to warm up for the race, that's about it for options, but assuming he doesn't, your options are to run the relay, fake an injury or illness, which will keep you from running the 800, or leave the team and run on your own. Whether your coach is ego driven, a genius, an idiot, has no bearing. There is not one thing any of us here can tell you to try to get you out of the 4 x 8 that will position you to run the 800 at that meet instead. Seriously, did you really think someone would have an answer or do you just want to whine about your coach?
Explain. I'm all ears. I'm serious. If I'm being a douche, explain how. I'm pretty sure I'm not but since 95% of people who responded say I'm being an over dramatic dicc I just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

You aren’t a freshman in high school. Maybe this happened to you a few years or 20 years ago and now you’re crying to a messageboard about it. The state timing is off. It’s the 10th of April! The references and perspective aren’t those of a 13-15 year old boy. You’re bawling about not getting to run the open race fresh, somehow know that 2:06 ain’t sh&t, and taking shots at liberals. 2:06/4:40 is good for most freshman anyway you slice it and no college coach is looking for a freshman 800/1600 runner. Your story is changing too, on page 2 or 3 you have a fast 800 split but don’t mention it. No one conveniently leaves out their faster 800 split. Not sure what triggered your relapse but seek some counseling. You should have run your 800s on pure hate.
The story was good until he went in too far on liberals. Up until then it was somewhat believable.
Only like 1 person before this page realized. I give it 8/10.
I train a lot for a freshman which is why I kind of downplay the results; most train far less (like 25mpw compared to 45mpw). If you want to know the split, it was 2:05.high. I don't give much credence too it, and it was too close to 2:06 really to mention it.
P.S. I am a conservative. I was baiting people a bit though, seeing their reactions are pretty funny.

dude chillll. there's no reason to think about leaving your team just because you don't have optimal conditions for running your best time at a meet as a freshman. If you don't like your coaches' workouts and he won't change them, then try to adapt them into what you do on your own in addition. And your team isn't hopeless, there are new potential freshman talent joining the team every year. And you do sound like a pain, so fix that or people won't like you.

He may or may not be doing his job well but the reason you abide is that you have no choice if you stay on the team. That's what you don't seem to get. And this is probably not the first time in your life you'll need to abide by something you think is stupid or wrong.

I knew I was going to get a response like this.
I have talked to all of the other kids on the team. None of them want to do it. All of us want to run our respective open events because our team is stupid and only goes to 2 invitationals a year. Nobody wants to waste their time with the 4x8. Otherwise, I see your point, but if we do run it we were all going to jog like 2:40 anyways.
P.S. track is an individual sport. My effort does not affect other people's splits.
Why did you join your high school track team, then? If you are really this apathetic about being on a team, there are aau, usatf, and a few open meets you could do instead. Go run some road races, whatever. But you signed up for a school track team, so either accept that comes with losing "some" of your power to decide for yourself what you will run each individual meet.

You state that track is an individual sport; I disagree, but fine. Quit and train on your own. That way you will no one else to blame when your selfish, absurd attitude gets you absolutely nowhere.
