Is the running boom dead?

It was one and done mentality, lots of people had to run a marathon, 1/2 marathon, 5k etc.

Participants in races has settled down or dropped to a normal level. Fitness runners are still out there.

Running shoe sales have done ok supported by the fashion of every day wear.

As whole the running business is very healthy.

It's over. Even active club runners have stopped running.

Is there anything more annoying than a former runner that posts on their own club message board or facebook about how they don't run anymore because of bad knees? It's usually the runners who formerly were the most enthusiastic.

Guy at work no longer runs because he read some research by that Irish doctor "O'something" whose live goal is to discredit running. He bought it hook, line and sinker. He powerwalks now. No joke.

My Strava feed is filled with former runners. I feel bad unfollowing them, but I should because it's a training thing. In the meantime, I'm not giving kudos for Barre3, Core, Sculp, or yoga workouts. Strava needs a filter on runs only.

Real running should make a comeback. Give it a few years.

I've been in the running 'scene' by virtue of only attending the apparently (by reading this thread) abhorrent RnR half stuff (two close to me, one I walk to the starting corrals from my place) and it seems anecdotally to be as big as ever, tho I'm not tracking attendance. Races keep popping up out of nowhere

Triathlon however is definitely on the decline. I mean we lost WILDFLOWER last year, attendance is down everywhere across every demographic in all regions.

Running seems to be doing ok. Seems like there will always be a mass participation award half to find or a charity 5k--- but we're losing tri events left and right

We, as a country, are fat. Not kinda pudgy, just fat. How many Americans could go out and run a half today? Not walk it, but actually run it? 5%? 3%? We like to eat more than we like to run.
