In fact, as details come out, the reason seems to be that Frontier does not allow "rodents" (as squirrels are classified). The woman fully ticked the correct box ahead of time, but didn't read the details.
Passengers were forced to deplane from flight 1612 from Orlando, Fla., to Cleveland on Tuesday when the woman refused to obey a request to leave the flight with her squirrel, at which point the airline called the Orlando Police, who escorted the woman off the plane. The woman argued that she included in her reservation notes that she would be traveling with an emotional support animal - though the airline argued that she did NOT indicate that said animal would be a squirrel.
Frontier said it doesn't allow rodents on its fights.
The airline said the passenger noted in her reservation that she was bringing an emotional support animal, but she did not specify that said animal would be a squirrel.

Someone should claim a person as an emotional support animal and try to get them to fly for free.

When I saw this story, I googled "service animal pig" (no quotes) and the top item was the American Mini Pig Association:

There's a pretty interesting discussion of service animals vs. emotional support animals. Pigs apparently fall into a grey area--or a pink area, I suppose.

A: This is a tricky question. The short answer is, sometimes, yes. The problem lies with the “Request for Reasonable Accommodation” step. You and your physician will have to document and explain exactly why you need a pig, and not a “traditional” animal species

I think there are truly about as many people that need "emotional" support animals as those who "need" "medical marijuana"
