Who here can run under 5 minutes for a mile?

Ran the 2 mile most of high school. Ran like a 4:55 indoors as my only attempt as a senior that year. Ran 4:50 outdoors in a 4xmile relay the following spring.

Wasn't much of a speedster, think I ran a 2:16 in a 4x800 relay that same indoor season.

Ran 10:26 for 2 miles that spring, and 17:14 for 5k the previous fall.

I'm in college now but not running competitively. Now I just hop into road races whether I'm fit or not. Recently ran 18:20 for 5k, and did a 3xmile workout with 5 min rest in between where I ran 5:38, 5:37, then 5:21.

Last time I ran a competitive mile was a year and a half ago, ran 5:08 off of a few weeks of track of 400/800 interval training. Maybe if I had a good day now I could squeeze under 5.

I broke 5 as a sophomore in High School. The lowest I got it to was 4:17 as a freshman in college.

If I were to strap on some spikes and go run around a track 4 times today, I would probably run a 4:58 or something. I've been back running like 20-30 miles a week for a month—if not for that I couldn't break 5.

Broke it as a freshman in High School - 14 years old

Can run well under now - 32

Could have / did do it ever year between 14 and 32.

I ran 4:47 as a Junior in HS. 4:38 as Senior.

With current mileage of 15-20 miles a week, breaking 5 min for the mile would be hard.

I am 30 years old and have spent time lifting. I wonder what I could do if I started doing intervals again.

How many months of training would it take me to get back down under 5?

first official time was my sophomore year (played baseball as a freshman) in my second indoor meet of the year. I think I ran 2:15 for the 800 that season. I was around 25-35 miles per week at the time.

As for today, Idk, I'd like to think I'm in shape enough to run nearly 13 of them consecutively.

2007: 4:53 as a high school junior

2008: 4:23 as a high school senior.

2013: 4:17 my 5th year in college.

2015: 4:25 my third year teaching and coaching Running about 40 miles a week consisting of:

--A ten miler.

--Either a 4 mile pickup at 5:40-5:50 pace or 3xmile at 5:15-5:20 with 90 sec rest.

--8x200 @ 33-34 with 200 jog (approx 55 sec) rest

--strides a couple times a week

--anything else was easy running including thinfs such as 1000m repeats at 6 min pace with short rest when I would run workouts with the girls I coach.

2017 (now) I'd estimate I could run 4:40. Only running about 30 miles a week, no workouts other than a Sunday 10 miler where sometimes we cut down close to 6 minute pace.

me too. 4:52 exactly as a froshran 4:22 as a senior and 4:06 in college. last race evercan not break 5 right now, but will be able to within the next month if i decide to start running again after 3 months off

Ran my first sub 5 as a high school senior. Didn't repeat the feat until I was 34 years old. In high school, running sub 5 was a product of a very basic run a few miles everyday training protocol. No sprints, tempo, or long day. Just basic good health and youth. As a 34 year old coming back to running after becoming overweight, my training plan was a little more advanced with quite a bit of concentration on recovery.
