Greatest 10,000 you've ever seen? How old are you? 15? Those time are pathetic compared to other great 10,000 in track and field. Proves one thing: these guys can't run on heat. What the heck, i ran 30:24 back in 1979 at almost 90 degrees in Colombia. These guys were crawling under today's and even my days standards. Consider this, even one of the top 3 worlds triathletes could have almost beat these guys after swimming 1.5k and riding 43k. Pathetic, simply pathetic.
My guess is you missed the women's race.

Because running was by definition sub-par until the late 80s. By then, running was dominated by East Africans, who then had access to better resources. Since 2000, distance performances and talent has been many leagues ahead of that before them.
