My grandmother doesn't understand the difference between cross country and track, but I would have hoped that people on LR would have a bit better grasp of the concept. Yes, LV ran two XC races in college. No, he did not run any track races in college. They are two different sports (LRers are cluless about a lot of things, but I never thought I'd have to explain this particular concept).
How did he manage to get out of it? Didn't he end up getting married? Divorce I guess?
I'm not sure Tim Danielson ever ran track in college.
He did, started @BYU, then transferred to one of the San Diego area schools. His college best was 4:01 or so.

Verzbicas never ran TRACK. Read the thread title homeboy
Eric Giddings was just under or right at 4:10 in high school (graduated 2005). Also just under 9:00. He went to Stanford, ran one or two XC meets as a redshirt, ran no track meets, was no longer with the team by his sophomore year. He did, however, do a nice painting of Gebrselassie.
Not quite sub-4:10, but I had a high school teammate who ran 4:12 and never even attempted to run in college. Just didn't feel like it.
