The continual emphasis on pounds for runners..this should stop

I am not going to vacillate from my original premise. If we go 16 minute 5k, the .63 miles of distance that you would win with just does not give you the right to call someone fat or sloppy. Nor is your fitness advice much different than for anyone sub-20. In fact, your 16 is losing to kenyans by the same margin, approximately and relatively.

It is easy to say troll when you must examine conscience. The Kenyans aren't calling people fat, dude.

Folks are overweight based on what the NIH defines as overweight. Medical issues are more prevalent when your BMI exceeds 25. 70% of the country. Pretty sad. Weight should be discussed more, not less.

It sounds like you may fit the profile of someone with psychological issues rooted from your childhood. Parents who demanded perfection.

Do you tell people who play rec basketball they'll never be as good as Steph Curry, why work on your jump shot?

And do you tell weekend golfers on the driving range to stop working on their swing, you'll never be Tiger Woods?

You can't relate to the motivation of others. Or, possibly, you've hit your potential as a runner and you're unhappy how it stacks up against others.

Bottom line, be comfortable in your own skin, who cares what your weight is as long as you're enjoying your hobby. I will give it to you for coming on here and being honest on what you think and defending your purpose even though you took a chance of being chastised. This place can be harsh but just know it will fuel your fire for your next race..:)

That is exactly my point. For many of us, everything is okay, until, of course, another person from this place attacks another 'jogger' and suggests a weight drop or that they may be too big or even small. For instance, the beating that Cain took here was dreadful.

My parents made few athletic demands. But the problem is not my motivation, but more the motivation of a 16er feeling like they can address the weight issues of anyone because they can run a 16.

And yes, at races I go to, I finish and then cheer on other finishers I don't even know for at least the next 30 minutes. Why? Because their race matters. So sure, please feel free to question my motivation as you celebrate your 16 with your mad buds in the beer garden trough. I'll regard those who appreciate their times and motivations more.

Here is the diff. I did not say not to care about one' s own weight. That is simply health. What I did say is that one's running weight may be perfect for them on that day and that it truly is for nobody else to regard. And yes, the alternative to that is myopic toward a uniformly desired body shape. Not cool.

All of your times are slow regardless of your weight. I could run a 19:35 5k at over 250 pounds. You are a jogger plain and simple your weight makes no difference at 10 miles a week.

There are a few different issues here. One is wether losing weight will make you faster. For most of us, it will.

Whether it is okay for a runner go criticize another runner's weight is a different issue. No, that's not ok, but I can't say I've ever actually observed this happening. I myself got fat for a few years after I stopped running competitively, and no runner ever said an unkind word to me about it.

Also, "you would be faster if you lost weight" is not the same statement as "you should lose weight so that you will be faster." I see nothing wrong with the former statement. It's just a statement of fact that holds true for most people who aren't professional runners (myself included). But whether I actually want to lose the weight to become faster is just a matter of my own preferences, and it really isn't anyone else's place to tell me whether I should or should not do so.

I'm actually a big fan of this type of John Bingham ("the Penguin") type of mentality, especially now that I'm in my 40s. However, that being said, it's amazing how much of a difference 5lbs makes in how I feel when I run - and that's at a 22 BMI.
