I meant more in recent years. Feitchinger and Bugler are the more recent versions of Erichsen and Fermoyle.

How will Joe Coffey run in the 1500m without Jake and Paul to train and race with? Having two 3:44 guys to run with everyday is a huge advantage. Will he PR this year at 1500m?

No, but there are still at least two Pauls in the conference he can train with. Someone in the MIAC will break 3:44 this year.

Is this a joke? Who in the MIAC do you see as being capable of running under 3:44 this year (the equivalent of a 4:01 mile) ????

You do realize Jake was like an 8 or 9 time AA or something absurd and was a 2x national champ and never broke 3:44, right?

I believe DCG has a fair shot if he's actually training for the mile. He has the speed, just lacks the endurance.

Alright, I do agree with you that DCG has as good of a shot as Coffey of breaking 3:44, but I just don't see those two as being on the same level as some of the guys Olaf graduated in the last couple years.

Hopefully DCG returns from being abroad in decent shape and can stay healthy this winter/spring.

Hmm, I would say Donson has performed fairly similarly to Escher and Jake up to this point (sophomore year). One All American finish, almost finalist at USA Juniors, injured on and off throughout. Only person in the conference aside from Jake that has beaten Paul 1000m or above. We'll just have to see what kind of shape he's in. Could go either way.

I do think that both the Olaf guys were capable of running faster than they did last year. That Haverford guy ran 3:42.01 a week after being beaten handily by them at Nationals.

lol i wouldnt call it a bashing. coulda gone either way and loras ended up finishing a little better (32pts is not a lot at nationals). good for loras to be top 10 tho.the bub that said loras will podium this fall should be the one explaining himself, not me. for a down year, the oles managed a semi-respectable fall for them. i know my oles will bounce back haha. phil and griff are still at the helm.

Donson probably has a better first year/sophomore resume, but Jake and Paul made the leap after nationals in 2014. Or I suppose Paul made the leap at nationals that year taking 2nd to McKenna Ramos--Mick Byrne hasn't helped him progress a whole lot since. They both went from being 3:50 guys to sub 3:45 guys. It's not out of the question that Donson could get there, but I think we forget how special it is to run that fast. Paul and Jake spoiled us. All hail Jake and Paul.

Donson went 3:49 off of interval speed based training and only like 30 miles a week. It isn't out of the question that if he bumped up his mileage and did some more strength based running that he would at least run a sub 3:46.

Plus, his natural running strength is pretty solid. He is decent at cross when healthy (25:30 at conference freshman year).

Think about it this way. Joe Coffey ran a 3:46 1500m last spring. Would you say that Coffey is head and shoulders above Donson? I wouldn't. Both are good at different things, but are very close to each other in terms of talent.

All of that said, runners like Wintheiser, Escher, Campbell, Saska all spoiled us all.

Saska was a handsome fella. Shame how he ended his career.

Not Campbell though, that kids earring looked so nimrodic.

His form made me ooze. Terrible way to end a fabulous career. Vastly underrated because of so.

At 1500m and above I would say Coffey is head and shoulders above DCG until proven otherwise. Coffey has an AA in both the 1500m and now XC, and is clearly a much stronger aerobic runner than DCG. Oh btw his 1500m PR is 3 seconds faster. So unless Coffey (who just went from being extremely mediocre in XC to 21st at nationals this fall) isn't going to improve, I would say there is very little chance of DCG beating him at 1500m or above. Those saying DCG ran 3:49 off of nothing, did you guys forget he ran 3:53 as a freshman? It's not like that 3:49 was unexpected.
