People are forgetting one thing...SHE'S BEEN BUSTED BEFORE!!!! Do you all really think she's stopped juicing? NO. She's just on something else, or making sure to stop the juicing before she has to take any tests....

Truth is most all of us have doped.
Many products contain caffeine, including coffee, soft drinks, chocolate, and medications such as No Doz, Vivarin, Midol, Anacin, Excedrin, and Fiorinal. Have you ever taken Excedrin 12 hours before a race? If so did you sit out your 2year ban? Have a couple coffees before the race?
Just a few examples.
I could train that hard too if I was juiced up. EPO is undetectable after a few days in the body. So of course she didn't test positive. To be caught they need to be tested at home. I think the people cheating feel like its ok, because they work their asses off. Yes, I'm sure they do. But they can only do that because they have unnatural helping abilities. The workouts you describe are amazing, but they would rip any elite athlete in two.
To race marathons at that pace, and at her age would take a toll on any young, eager, well-trained athlete. To race marathon after marathon with road races in between and show no sign of tiredness is a joke. Have you ever raced a marathon and then a couple of road races in the following weeks and then another marathon at such an elite level. Any elite athlete will tell you that it is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
Caffeine was only banned when certain levels were surpassed. Do you have any idea how many coffees, soft drinks or chocolate would have to be consumed to surpass those levels? More than a couple.
Also, could you point out to me where the penalty for stimulants is 2 years and not a suspension from the meet in question?
Umm... the amount of caffeine needed to get busted is something along the lines of 18 cups of coffee taken in the hour before the test. So, you could chug nearly a gallon of coffee and still be clean.
"The International Olympic Committee placed a ban leading to disqualification for an athlete with urinary limits exceeding 12 mg/mL. Roughly 600 to 800mg of caffeine, or 4 to 7 cups of coffee, consumed over a 30-minute period would be enough to exceed this level and cause disqualification."
Whoops... I need to look into the facts better before I spout off urban legends apparently. My apologies.
I was about to compliment the time, thinking we were talking about a guy. A female?? Assuming she's clean, that's incredible.
Whilst I am not commenting one way or another on the doping issue, I will say that the run by Tatyana Pozdnyakova/Tatiana Pozdniakova (I've seen both ways of spelling this name) actually brings the W50 closer into line with expected decline from the W40 and W45 records. The old W50 was held by Bev Lucas of Australia and was a ~14 minute drop off from Pozdniakova's W45 record of 2:29. What validates both records is the W40 record of Priscilla Welch's at 2:26. A three minute drop between 5 year age groups is reasonable and backed up by the rate of decline of the 10,000 and 5,000 records.
One thing to remember here. Most of the age group stuff is by people "new" to the sport. Priscilla was young competitive age wise. Same with Jack Foster. Even a guy like Boston Billy sees a gradual decline with age beginning in his late 30's. Producing outstanding times into your 50's and develop the ability to handle even higher training loads is, at the very least, suspicious.

That may certainly be true, but if the woman herself is not declining, then your argument is not an adequate explanation. How could it be that there is an expected decline with time for everyone else but not for her?
I don't think anyone takes most of the sub-4 times from th Eastern Bloc nations to be credible.
and higher racing loads too. I agree with the previous poster who pointed out the absurdly negative splitting she did in the race for someone who was the defending champ.

No f'ing way a legit 50 year old woman ran 2:31. This brings up the bigger point of all these Rooskies who come to the US, jacked up like bodybuilders and run 2:26-2:30 marathons every other week. Anyone else a little skeptical?
Yes, I am very skeptical. 50? Woman? No way! Open your eyes everyone!

Explanation of what exactly?
I stated very specifically that I was not commenting on the doping issue.
No explanations, nothing except facts.
The facts are that the new record is more in line with the expected decline than the old one. Nothing more, nothing less.
I'll leave the "explanations" to people who delight in such rubbish.

And then the race started and she blew me away!
Actually she didn't.
Just curious-someone out there has the ability to search for all the races she has run in the past year or so. I would like to see. I have seen the "Russian" group at several races over the past few years, and then see that they raced a marathon the week before and then race again the next weekend, etc. How do they recover so fast and then race again at such a high level?

Friend, what makes you think she wasn't drug tested?
What makes me think she wasn't tested? I think she wasn't tested because she deliberately finished out of the places in order not to be.
She was 5th woman over all. Her splits were as follows,
10K 35:12
HALF 1:19:24
30K 1:46:48
Finish 2:31:05
I'm just guessing but to me they don't look like the splits of an experienced marathoner trying to finish in the money.

5th place was in the money, my friend. Good money; $9500.
OK I stand corrected.
But why didn't she run for first? She was obviously in good enough shape to do so and decided not to for some reason.
USA athletes are randomly tested here by USADA...who tests foreign athletes who live here? Does anyone? Who has the authority? Or are they only tested at races. If only tested at races, clearly they could manipulate the doping schedule to test "clean" at the race..
I like letting her pace me through the first half of a 10k. She has a very nice rear end, especially in those little spankies she wears. Thank you Tatyana.
