i will bet my bottom $$$, that he came into this meet in 1-off - "zurich 800" shape of

~ 1'40-mid/high

except he ran dumb in rounds, putting in something like ~ 24.6 !!! intrinsic finish in his semi of ~ 1'43.1 which was worth ~ 1'42-flat at worst off 2s +ve splits pace

for Asbel, who is probably in 1'41+ shape, this might not be enough for win, unless maloofi has been hugely wrecked by 800 efforts

Asbel will need to be in

1'40+

shape to outkick maloofi today !!!

Just took this from another poster on another thread about Centro not winning gold.

My take, you guys are truly unrealistic as I just looked up what he had posted below, and the poster was right.

The truth is, there are 7 guys in that field with faster season bests than Centro's.

There are 6 guys with faster pr's than Centro's.

You guys are reaching for the stars if you think he's going to win gold.

Rupp is an awesome athlete and I would love to see him win or medal in the marathon. But really? Isn't it absurd to think that anyone can nail the podium after having run one marathon - and that a 2:11. It's such a remote possibility. Experience counts for so much.

I'm sure many on LR will blame the 10k if he doesn't medal, but I find any expectation that he could pull a medal off to be pretty loopy. Like Geb, it will probably take 4 or 5 marathons for Rupp to realize his best marathon.

Best of luck, Galen. And I emphasize the "luck". And for those who will criticize him if he doesn't medal, consider how totally unrealistic you're being.

Like Alberto in his first and second marathons? Stay on the sidelines runnerdave and stick to your local 5k's, you don't have the mind to understand what I'm laying down.
