It's different per event and per level one is currently at, of course there is no one magic number. For a high schooler running 2:20, suddenly dropping to 2:12 in two years isn't a stretch. Going from 1:54-1:42 in two years? No way. The jumps in time are supposed to be smaller as you get faster, especially when you start touching world class times.

In what time frame was he supposed to be doping - during the summer when he was competing in Beijing? I had a friend in high school who went from 2:00 > 1:49 in the span of 2 seasons. It's called IMPROVING YOUR TRAINING AND CONSISTENCY, it's how you get better in literally every sport.

People know he's clean. It's his E. African competition who somehow manage to miss all out of season testing who are suspect.

2:00 to 1:49 is a big jump bit it is not 1:54 to 1:42. What happened to your friend? Did he jump from 1:49 to 1:44 the next season? No, he probably didn't.
