Rowbury is 100 percent correct and saying a modified version of what others have said here. Some of you people combine a stunning a level of clownishness with a complete lack of honesty and decency. As for the guy who said we already segregate by gender give an equal amount of awards to the "inferior" half, try having hips that are suitable for childbirth.

Whatever happened with Semenya? They did the sex test and determined what? She's actually intersex? I mean, some women are pretty butch and can look mannish. She's not the first or the last. And, it's not like Semenya is running top male times, and she has been beaten in major competitions. So, why is this STILL an issue. Just because Semenya looks so "intersex"? Or, is she actually intersex and allowed to run and people are pissed, or do people think she's doping heavily?

I'm not much of a Rowbury fan at all but agree with her on this subject. Others don't. If she is a rational person she will be fine with that.

shannon's message was gross and transphobic. Caster Semenya is a woman, and therefore should be allowed to compete in women's sports - biology/sociology 101: gender and sex are different!!!!!!!!

She is right: there is an "established precedent of men's and women's sports" just like there is an established precedent in this country (and the west writ-large) of denying rights to and disrespecting the humanity of people with non-normative genders/sexualities/sexes. There is an established precedent of violence - the violence of exclusion, of dispossession, of marginalization - and Caster is about to lose her job and her passion because normative/cis-women like Rowbury can't keep up.

She is right: women have fought for a long time for the right to compete. And now it's women's turn (and men's turn too) to fight for other athletes who contemporarily face injustice and outright exclusion from society.

As a trans distance runner myself, we face a myriad of challenges that are completely unseen by cis-gendered (meaning non-trans people). Don't act like Semenya is privileged by her body in some way - Rowbury is not the one who has not been in an ongoing trial with the IAAF for the past 5 years and continually disallowed to compete, been publicly outed as trans and received international media attention, and ran through the grips of depression to have the season she is having right now.

I stand with Semenya. And so should Rowbury. And so should all of us if we truly stand for justice in our sport.

If Rowbury gets tested and shows up with the same amount of testosterone as Caster, she will be banned from competition. We need to have standards on how much testosterone or other hormones a competitor who claims to female can have so intersex athletes will not be competing unfairly against women. Rowbury could have made a better point if she had not talked about "discrimination" which modern women like her are not subject to in any majore way. The key is that intersex athletes can compete with a hormone profile that will get any natural woman banned.

caster was born with a normal looking vagina, but no one new she had internal undeveloped testes. im sure there was nothing strange until about 12 or so and she began to go through puberty. if you do some research and stop blabbing on about how its "UNFAIR" you will find that a HUGE % of intersex combinations result in life long health issues. where as Caster isnt weak, web feet, short neck, or kidney problems.

I strongly support divisions in men's and women's, but it would be more fair and equal to have one open division where everyone regardless of their gender/sex/disability/etc competes together. However, since we have decided to make arbitrary divisions, they should be clearly defined. With a clear definition, like we had with testosterone levels, it was obvious that Semenya should not compete in the "women's division" but would be allowed to compete in the "men's" or "open" division if she chooses.

Another question, if Semenya was capable of running 1:46 for 800 would you still believe that she should be competing in the women's division at this year's Olympics?

I thought it was interesting that she was angry at the convicted dopers for "getting caught" cheating.

I guess the message from NOPe is that cheating is okay as long as you don't get caught.

Her answer to the Semenya question was good given the sound bite time frame she had to answer. However, with more time to answer, I'd be curious where she wants to draw the line for male and female divisions in sport. I think the answer is a little less clear than most acknowledge.

nobody is disputing her gender. but while Brenda Martinez's comments show that she thinks that gender is what is relevant in determining who can compete against whom, clearly Shannon Rowbury thinks sex is what matters. both have valid points. personally, I side with Shannon (I'm a gay man). also, Shannon doesn't deserve ad hominem attacks for presenting her viewpoint in a fair and clear way.

So let me get this straight. We should be fair to the 0.01% of the population that is intersex and let them/her compete against women? Why does no one care about being "fair" to the 99.99% of women who are not intersex and have no chance to win now? Seems folks are focused on being to PC at the expense off the majority.

Science tell us that there is a continuum between the male and the female sexes. If you illustrate this with percentages a person can for example be 50% male and 50% female, or 25% male and 75% female, or 100% female.

Caster Semenya is obviously at least 95% male and at most 5% female. That is he is first and foremost a man even if he maybe has more female traits than most men.

You are the one who don't understand this. The dichotomy intersex vs transgender that you and your leftist friends toss around has no support in science. None whatsoever. It's as false as categorizing everyone as either 100% male or 100% female. But that doesn't bother you as long as it serves your messed up leftist world view.
