This 5000 was at a slower pace than the Olympic 10,000 is going to go, and Rupp couldn't kick with 13:2x guys?

I don't really see the Olympics being 26:50 tbh, nobody runs that normally let alone in a championship where it's sit and kick. It's obvious Galen is lacking for some speed though right now, but if he's focusing more on the marathon as his chance for a medal because he feels good in that he shouldn't worry; he'll be probably about 5th in the 10k again and then have his chance in the marathon which I think might be right up his alley considering it won't be a fast marathon and he can use his 10k strength late.

perfect? it's 90 effing degrees, dude. no rain- the trails are clouds of dust. dropping down to the valley for track workouts cranks it up about 5-7 degrees. if you think this is perfect, then it's only going to get better for you. now, tomorrow, that will be perfect 78/48.

Rupp probably had a hard workout week coming into this. He probably ran a 57 last lap this time. He was able to run a 55 last lap last week in a slightly quicker race so I shouldn't be too worried about his speed.

He's devastated because after the race he has 4x4x800m right after the race.

Congrats to Woody though. I'm sure he was screen-capping all these headlines and message boards on LR last night. Probably the first and only time he beats someone of Galen's caliber.

Radcliffe did indeed run a 5000 pb in 2004, at age 30. She ran 14:29 that year in June (and she'd run 2:15 in 2003). Guess what her next marathon was? She was a DNF in Athens in August. So she was super super fit for 5k a few months out before the marathon at the Olympics and then bombed the Olympics. Thanks for helping prove my point.

I've always thought traning for the marathon helps you at 5k/10k in the long term. Just in the short term, it's not good to be in great 5k shape if you are training for a marathon. My brother ran great at 10k when in reality he was training for half the year to be a good marathoner. He never ran a good marathon but all of that strength work benefitted him when he returned to the track.

You certainly aren't making a point for drugs. If Radcliffe was doped to the gills (and perhaps she was but your argumetns aren't helping make that case) I'd think she's have run under 14:00. 2:15 is WAY WAY better than 14:29.

I guess I'm a Rupp fan. Anynow, he figured he could win this 5000 with no taper, training through. Oh well.

He'll win the trials 10, and likely be in the top 3 over 5000 too.

Right. Everybody is up in arms over doping that's been happening since the mid-90s, but if you can't run a time faster than all those dopers, you suck and your medal is a fluke. Did I get that right?

Probably talking about the 40 year old Haile in 2008 breaking the Olympic record and getting 7th or Bekele, or maybe how Mo Farrah went from not making the 5 final in 2008 to winning in 3 years.

Rupp was unable to beat knight but he let the other guy beat him. So kind of irrelevant.

As others said he closed faster the other week without hardly trying off a faster pace. He obviously wasn't running this race for time and just as a workout.

Also, this is the first time I've ever seen Rupp race in compression shorts. Should we be reading anything into that?

Anyways, it's clear that the NOPers (except Mo, who's a NOPer in name only) are off the sauce ...at least the super potent sauce they had from 2011-2014. Remember when Rupp was a ferocious kicker? LOL. Now he's back to being the Rupp of 2005-2010, who couldn't kick to save his life. Back to reality after the ProPublica report, I guess.
