I wonder if anyone knows what calculations Ventolin^3 would use to determine Hunter's mile result on Saturday.

Does he race for his High School or is he beyond that? Only 4 races?

His high school won their conference meet with more than 200 points. Scored all 7 runners in the 3200. Go look at their team; they don't need him. He's running states with them anyway. And won the national championship 4xmile, DMR, and Penn DMR. Pretty sure he's doing just fine for his team.

How can you run in the state meet without running league?

I'm from CA so it's a little different. We have to run 50% of dual meets to be eligible for post season. Then you go from league to section trials, finals then state. You can't skip league or you're done.

Not a dig, just wondering if he was running his HS season in regular competition.

Argghh I detest that backstraight. The only consolation is that Hunter will be tucked in most or all the way.

The East stands funnel the wind so that 5-10 becomes 15-20, and directly down the straight with no angular component. Many times I would stand on the start line barely feeling any breeze, to round the turn into what felt like a gale.

5-10 mph really isn't that bad of a wind, particularly when you're drafting off the back of a dozen other athletes. If anything, that helps Hunter, since Kiprop or whoever will be less willing to be the one breaking the wind for the last 800 meters, and therefore the pace might be slower.

It's not the prevailing wind speed that matters, it's the wind-tunnel wind speed, which gets pretty fierce.

If the wind is so bad why don't the run the race in the other direction like they do for the sprinters?

CA is a clown state. Most other states don't use this format. You can race in anything you've qualified for on time.

Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the field is similar to last year and there is no reason that the elites will certainly run fast just because they can. Often, too many big dogs in one race turns it into a tactical affair. This is an Olympic year, times mean nothing these guys will want to win. 1:59 at ~810m will not be unusual.

Does anyone remember last year? Souleiman 1st in 3:51, Centro 2nd and Kiprop 3rd. You are living in a dream world if you think Drew will run 3:53 in a race like that.

Let's hope the race is more like that of 2014.

Good luck to him and I hope the race is fast, but there is a good chance it won't be. Kiprop does some strange things also.

Just read the Drew Hunter/Tinman article. Anyone else think his coach is overestimating Hunter's abilities by quite a bit? Coach says Hunter in a good race can go well under the record!

If Hunter breaks the record by a hundredth of a second that would be incredible! To go well under means like 3:52low or 3:51, come on that's a joke. He also said Hunter can go low 1:47, low 8:20s, and under 13:30. So basically he thinks Hunter is better than Alan at mid-d plus combine that with significantly better than Rupp and LV at distance.

Anyone else find that completely preposterous? I mean I guess we'll see but I'm guessing not. Hunter is either in the top 5 of high school runners ever or as Tinman thinks he'll make everyone of the all time great HSers look like pretenders compared to him.

So Slagowski has run faster than Hunter in the 800 and the MILE this year. All of Slago's race have been against high school fields (essentially time trials) while Hunter ran his 2 sub-4''s and 1500 against pro's. It would be a phucking crime if Slago is relegated to the national mile. Step up, Tom Jordan. It could be a historic moment if 2 HS kids ran a sub-4 in the same race.

I see it the opposite- not arrogant at all, but saying others could accomplish similar things with the opportunity to do so.

In almost every domain, there is a ton of untapped talent all around us all the time.

Lots of untpped running talent? Yes.

If his leg speed velocity can match the wind-tunnel speed velocity... then who knows?
