Dwight Phillips vs. Lauren Fleshman and Nick Symmonds on Twitter

Fleshman insulted the AAC. Athlete's Advsory Committee. She says it is inactive, not doing anything.

The leadership of the AAC is black - Phillips is chair, Porter VP, McCloud Sec'y, and one other black person. There are two whites.

So Phillips thought Fleshman's criticism of the AAC was race based. As many blacks think the criticism of USATF (led by African Americans hightower and now Siegel) is race based.

Many black people think that the battles at USATF are basically a race war.

Fleshman may not have meant anything racial, but Phillips has a thin skin and thought it was. He thought this was yet another race based insult of USATF based on white people saying black poeple are incompetent.

Also note the timing. The tweet came shortly after disturbingly racist emails sent to USATF were released.

to be fair to Phillips, this happened recently - ugly racial emails to Siegel:

I'm developing a race theory that says basically black people have some trouble taking normal criticism - we all get criticised...many black people automatically think it is race based. Very hard to work with them when this happens.

It's not a race issue. It;s Nike. When Masbach and Logan was CEO, USATF was out of control, and it's the same with Siegal/Hightower.

In this case Philips is guilty of reverse racism. A white person can't be critical of the job a black person without being a racist? Philips is judging Lauren's racial views with no evidence. In real work environments people get criticized constantly regardless of race. Even when you do a great job, which the AAC hasn't, you get criticized by someone.

We do see it. We see it as Phillips responding to a comment on HIS ability as a communicator as if it were a condemnation of all black peoples' ability to do a competent job.

No Mr Phillips this one IS all about you.

Racial huffing and puffing aside, can we address the actual content of Fleshman's tweet? We're now more than three months into an olympic year (with the event itself just four months away), and the committee charged with advising and representing the athletes hasn't had any communication with said athletes? I'm not a professional runner, so I don't have any idea about how frequent or helpful AAC correspondence typically is, but, on it's face, it sure sounds like someone might be dropping the ball here.

That's all I can see as well. How could Dwight possibly find that as the best response to such a tweet by Lauren? This blows my mind. How is he the chair of the AAC with the leadership he is demonstrating with a tweet like that?
