1. the fizz died down,
2. she has only opened cans that didn't fall, or
3. she got blasted, but attributed it to something else.

No, no, no. The freezer is the only way. The gases will shrink initially, but to keep them from going back to a carbonated explosion waiting-to-happen, you need to put them in the microwave. The microwaves will return the gases to their pre-shaken status.
